ai6yr,
ai6yr,

Per article: "The 56-year-old told a state trooper he was behind the motorcycle on eastbound state Route 522 east of Maltby on April 19 when he looked down at his cell phone while the vehicle was rolling forward on auto-pilot. Distracted by his phone, "the next thing he knew, there was a bang," and the Tesla crashed into the motorcycle" 🤨

@ai6yr I hate these look down excuses. It is 2024, either use voice control or mount the damn phone on your window with a $10 device.

ai6yr,

Article: "Using a vehicle in an auto-pilot is illegal in Washington state, according to Washington State Patrol. A spokesperson told KING 5 that a driver behind the wheel, even on auto-pilot, is responsible. "

@ai6yr I feel like something we have to add to the arguments for protected cycle lanes is the fact that legislators and regulators failed us all by allowing Tesla, et al to put killer distraction technology on the road.

They have an obligation to create safe separated infrastructure for cyclists, preferably paid for with real taxes on the corps that did this shit.

ai6yr,

@meganL There's a new, car-sized hole in a block wall around here on one of the main routes... One of the streets I specifically avoid. There's a sidewalk up against that wall (with no separation from the road and 1/4 mile of wall locking you onto that sidewalk). Absolutely hostile to bicycles and pedestrians. (Fortunately, there is a parallel in-neighborhood route with no traffic, just need to watch for doors...)
