The republicans in the south are cooked

"A series of pro-union commercials are appearing on televisions in central Alabama ahead of next week’s historic union vote at Mercedes-Benz in Tuscaloosa County.
More Perfect Union Solidarity, a pro-labor non-profit,* *is airing the ads in support of the United Auto Workers on television stations in central Alabama, as well as Hulu, Paramount+, YouTube, and other TV services in the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa areas."

"The three television ads feature local Mercedes auto workers on why they are voting to join a union, Crimson Tide football great Antonio Langham on why he supports unionizing, and UAW President Shawn Fain discussing his faith."

LMAO

"U.S. government officials familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that that officials talked about the allegations brought by the UAW against the German luxury automaker, which include the firing of union activists, as well as holding a mandatory meeting where a Mercedes exec discourages workers to unionize in a recent meeting.
The conversation that took place also included commitments by its respective governments that they will work together to promote unions and worker's rights. "

"The Taft-Hartley Act of 1947 weakened organized labor in part by banning “secondary” or “sympathy” strikes, in which workers would strike one employer in order to pressure another, such as a business partner or supplier. Congress passed the law following a historic wave of disruptive work stoppages in 1945 and 1946 that involved millions of workers in the auto, energy, food, film and other industries."

"Large-scale, simultaneous strikes tied to contract expirations could achieve by legal means the sort of cross-industry troublemaking that was outlawed decades ago."

Now I understand the significance of UAW's call to get their contracts to expire on May Day 2028

I cannot BELIEVE we dont celebrate May Day considering we all derive our work life balance from it.

"Workers seeking an 8-hour workday waged mass strikes on May 1, 1886, leading to a police crackdown. Three days later, someone tossed a bomb into a crowd at Chicago’s Haymarket Square, setting off a deadly riot. Eight labor activists were later convicted in what was denounced as a sham trial."

In early 2019, UNESCO and the Frankfurt Zoological Society allegedly attempted to relocate more than 100,000 Maasai from Ngorongoro to establish a so-called conservation area—in reality, it’s all for tourism, said Edward Mauru Nduleti, a village counselor and chairperson of the Ngorongoro pastoral council."

ever since I learned in therapy my surprise avoidance is not mine but my parents that I inherited because I spent 16 of my formative years in the shadow of their fears, it has been helpful in using the same tools I use for my own surprise avoidance with them.

They had to do a big move from one city to another by themselves and without physical help from me and I walked them through the worst case scenarios for each situation several weeks in advance and today my mom remembered one of those worst case scenarios and talked about how she was able to realize she was in it because we talked about it and it was manageable.
