Alright. I will admit - I don't like a lot of the vibe on #Threads, don't like how they are promoting celebrities, or how clout and status centric it has been from literally the first hours at launch... BUT
Because I'm a #marketing and #comms professional, I do think I'll be staying there as long as others do. I'm already finding other marketing & #SEO people who I haven't been in touch with since Twitter in Nov. + lovely to reconnect with the #Notion community.
@mariyadelano I noticed that too. Doesn't seem designed for real connections, just another social media marketing tool, but I guess that is what it is trying to replace.
If the larger companies find a home there which feels less toxic than twitter I think it will do what it set out to do.
@DocBolus yeah. there is value for us business people to have a more casual quick-posting place for business stuff beyond LinkedIn. But I do NOT see any value prop for this platform for regular users.
@mariyadelano as a humble drone the only thing I missed about twitter was the feeling that you could maybe attract the attention of a corporation or get some newsflash. I kind of miss that.
That value though was not worth the sheer amount of half arsed argumentative dross that you had to wade through while your blood pressure went through the roof.
If threads can deliver me the idea of access, give me some news and not be toxic I will stay.
I just don't think I will be interacting there much.
And I am still collecting screenshots of the cringiest things I see on my feed. A proper writeup and my favorite screenshots will be going up on my newsletter sometime this weekend.

@mariyadelano Well if Meta do what they said then Threads will implement Activity Pub at some point and then we can spam them as much as we like! I mean chat with.
@simoncox mwahahah honestly I would be pretty happy with that if Fedi server admins can figure out a way to connect with those accounts without flooding our instances here with garbage or hate speech. I have been following all the updates on that and I think we need a lot of safeguards from the Fedi side (or defederate if not possible to put those in place). But if we could do it in a way that doesn't mess things up too much here.. I'd like that.
@mariyadelano Well thats the thing - we have a lot of control on what appears in our streams for each instance on Masto. Sure we might get flooded but not for long, as we have a lot of tools to stop it. Will be interesting.
