@juliaserano too complicated for them; I go with the simpler "first tell me 'what is a cat' " and wait until they fail... Cause more often than not they are not aware how big Maine coons are xDD
Which drives to conversation towards cats and completely annihilates their animosity ;)
@juliaserano I read your 'Transgenda People and Biolgical Sex Myths' article as a result of this toot and found it very interesting and thoughtprovoking. As someone who is profoundly confused about all this and who has encountered considerable hostility when trying to learn more, I appreciate you sharing it, not as an end-point in my journey, but, at least, a step on the way.
@juliaserano I agree. Debating with those people does no good. Instead they try to make it appear that a certain topic is controversial where no actual controversy exists. It's the same tactic they use to deny Evolution and Climate Change. They have no actual proof for their claims, but they do have finely calibrated logical fallacies and rhetorical tactics that make winning a "debate" difficult, no matter how correct one is. A skilled debater could win a debate on the premise that "water is not wet" using their tactics, but water would still be wet.
I understand the desire to find clarity around complex issues like gender. However, focusing too narrowly on definitions often overlooks the humanity in each of us. More than categorizing others, I believe leading with empathy allows us to better understand and support one another.
@juliaserano Julia, my answer to this question is simple in regard to anyone who regards it as a serious question: its what the questioner wishes to control.
