Now have your downvote (that fortunately thanks to lemmy isn’t tracked or otherwise impactful to you personally. Unlike on Reddit where it would be a permanent stain on your accumulated online life achievements) and be on your way sir and/or madam.
It’s already better than Reddit so your first sentence is bullshit. I think you mean popular and I just have to say to that: Being popular isn’t necessarily good. Just look at Reddit.

Counter, I don’t want a reddit clone. Reddit made my anxiety flare, I was too addicted to it, and it was way too toxic. I am here because it’s not like reddit.
We also did try to change reddit with the protests, and it did nothing, so I’d say changing it from within works less than a spinoff, if that’s all you classify the fediverse as.
