YORK COUNTY, Maine —
Three people accused of breaking into a home and threatening the resident were allegedly asked to do so by a landlord.

The York County Sheriff's Office was called to a home on Acton Ridge Road over the weekend.

The resident told authorities a large group of motorcycles had arrived at her home and some of those bikers were trying to force their way inside.

Officials say three men kicked in the door to her apartment and began to threaten the woman inside. Investigators say they later learned the landlord of the building solicited the men following a landlord-tenant dispute.

Jessie Manchester, Christopher Moreau and Harley Faires were all charged with burglary and criminal threatening.

The men were arrested but have since been released from jail. Officials have not said what the dispute between the landlord or tenant was, or if the landlord is facing charges.

sadreality,

OP, not clicking the article but have he perps say they were hired? Accusing somebody of a felony requires some basic evidence...

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, the cops are.

Also, let's be clear that the burden of proof for an arrest is =/= to the burden of proof for indictment. If investigators are comfortable telling the press the landlord solicited goons to threaten a tenant then it is far from a stretch to think they should at least arrest the landlord.

sadreality,

Thank you... Not sure why somebody below said there was no evidence ... Apologies.

BigMcLargeHuge,

@TheOlympian @sadreality

In a country where people are fucking issued AR-15s at birth, they pull this shit.

I'm not thrilled with where this country is going, but I literally cannot wait to shoot back at some dumbfuck Republican.

Nice title. It is alleged the landlord was involved. What you know is that 3 people broke into a house and those 3 people were arrested. Should we arrest people without proof because you’re upset at the idea of landlords?

sadreality,

Bad take all around... At least read the article if you are going to make such claims

Bootlicker.

ikidd,

I think the title refers to the landlord not being arrested, not the bikers. Last line was that they didn’t know if the landlord was facing charges, which probably means he hadn’t been arrested yet.

It's only alleged because that's the journalistic convention to prevent a libel lawsuit from the landlord until a guilty verdict is handed down by a jury. That's just how articles always phrase it.

Maine landlord solicited men who broke into apartment, threatened resident, deputies say

I don't claim to be a York County Deputy so I'm not here to make the accusation myself, but I do claim to be a guy who can read just below a headline and can see that according to the article, the York County Sheriff's department deputies did in fact make that accusation.

Arxir,

This is definitely shocking news and an issue to settle, but this community is !workreform not !housingreform.

Kichae,

Hey, if the guys breaking in were paid for their efforts, that's work, right?

Right?

Arxir,

Then I would like the focus of this post to be on how the contractor (the landlord) used unethical business practices against his stooges :D

This is fair. This was just the only community I had knowledge of that would care about this news with a higher degree of specificity.

Arxir,

Good Point. I didn’t want to shoo you away either. As I said, definitely interesting.

brenstar,

The very bottom of the article states that they were arrested and have since been released. Likely under bail.

The trespassing thugs were, their co-conspirator/boss was not.

teft,

Officials have not said what the dispute between the landlord or tenant was, or if the landlord is facing charges.

The landlord, whom the post title is referencing, hasn’t been arrested. (according to this article)

brenstar,

Ah, My mind immediately went to the three people that broke in. Since the landlord wasn’t at the scene, I’m guessing the tenant needs to prosecute before the landlord will face charges.

sadreality,

I hate landlords like the next serf but criminal law requires evidence to prosecute... So unless victim produces it or police find it, it doesn't look like there is a case.
