Keeponstalin,

But the two most widest gaps are Hamas’ demand that the IDF withdraw from the corridor it created south of Gaza City, which prevents the return of Palestinians to the north of the Strip. The other sticking point is Hamas’s demand that the next phase of the deal, which could include release of soldiers, includes a permanent ceasefire.

Behind the scenes: The hostage deal is a political hot potato in Israel with Netanyahu’s ultranationalist coalition partners objecting to any deal that will include a mass release of Palestinian prisoners and that could lead to a permanent ceasefire.

Once again Israel prioritizes ongoing ethnic cleansing over saving the hostages and a permanent ceasefire.

Rapidcreek,

Of course Isreal is holding Hamas prisoners, some of which participated in October 7th. In the past, they’ve released prisoners only to have them return to Isreal to commit worse crimes. On the other side, Hamas wants to even name the prisoners they want released. If you look at it dispassionatly, the way peace makers have to do, it’s a wide hurdle.

Rumors are israel re-kidnapped two of the hostages released in the last prisoner swap from the west bank yesterday. Indicating they are not being very serious with their deals.

    Lemmy.world has an abundance of cryptofascists. You need to report them all the time, and block them too. If necessary, publically point out this problem, if mods do not listen.

  • Hypx,

    Sure. But please report and block these people. We need them kicked out of social media.

    That it is, but they’re the genocide supporters who think Israel is in the right.

    Luckily most of the world doesn’t buy into that disgusting narrative.

    18 March 2024 - Israeli Occupation Arrests 25 Palestinians in West Bank

    Ramallah, March 18 (QNA) - The Israeli occupation forces arrested on Monday at least 25 Palestinians in the West Bank.

    In a joint statement, Palestinian Prisoners Society and Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said that the arrests were concentrated in the governorates of Ramallah, Bethlehem, Hebron, Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarm and Occupied Jerusalem, noting that the occupation forces arrested a Palestinian woman who happens to be one of the hostages that were released as part of the recent exchange deals.

    Rapidcreek,

    Which has nothing to do with this topic. You can start one on your own,

    NoIWontPickAName,

    Them going back on their last hostage exchange has nothing to do with the current hostage exchange deal?

    Linkerbaan,
    @Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

    Openly violating the terms of the last hostage swap is pretty relevant when they are negotiating for a new hostage swap.

    Rapidcreek,

    Well friend, if you want to repost hamas conspiracy theories rather than find peace, that totally says all that’s needed about you.

    @Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

    So you are saying that Israel did not kidnap civilians from the west bank? (which they then torture and sexually violate?)

    The only party not trying to achieve peace is very clearly israel.

    Rapidcreek,

    I’m saying that you play with fantasies to satisfy your narrative. Not looking for solutions. You think your influencing anyone but the weak of mind? Maybe that’s enough for you.

    Linkerbaan,
    @Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

    Israel openly kidnaps civilians but you’re too “strong minded” to believe they would commit war crimes?

    Rapidcreek,

    Double down. It’s all you can do. Yes, to believe you does take a weak mind.

    Deceptichum,
    @Deceptichum@quokk.au avatar

    The UN has reported on Israels war crimes, this is documented and known factual information.

    Rapidcreek,

    They heard all about it in the Hague. How did that judgement go again?

    Deceptichum,
    @Deceptichum@quokk.au avatar

    The first hearing went well actually, South Africa’s claims were found to have merit.

    Israel was ordered to minimise the suffering it’s causing, but obviously Israel has not done so and as long as the US shields them from the UN nothing much else can be done about it.

    Rapidcreek,

    The fact finding found no war crimes. But, the court acknowledged there was potential and it should be monitored.

    Altofaltception,

    Can’t wait for things to go back to normal and where Palestinians are treated like shit by the racist Israelis.
