While I would expect some basic level of competence in being able to background check someone, it isn’t reasonable to assume that people automatically know the background of someone they’ve most likely never heard of before.

It’s thought that Trudeau and Zelensky were both unaware of Hunka’s past. Trudeau’s office said the “Speaker of the House has apologized and accepted full responsibility for issuing the invitation”.
