Trying to figure out how I would (passively 😂) run an online #writing support group and what people actually want and need from it.
Here’s my thoughts.
I want:
• something for writers at any stage of their journey — from emerging to established — to foster a sense of community and provide encouragement and support
• a close-knit group, where we catch up on a regular basis — as well as maybe a video chat once/twice a month to check in with goals etc.
• a place to share submission calls, recommendations of people to work with, details of things going on and other opportunities. Maybe with the occasional fun ‘let’s all write something for this’ challenge
• a place where everyone is moving forwards in a similar direction, not necessarily along the same path, but actively working on growing
• a place where everyone is committed to their personal writing journey, as well as those of the others in the group.
Anyway… I’m still trying to figure out how to do it and how much energy I have for it.
Mostly I just want to find more like-minded writer friends that I don’t have to (neurospicy) mask around and am not in some weird popularity competition with. And that will hold me accountable so I actually get some work done! 😂
Extra thought:
I write (mostly) horror, speculative fiction, literary poetry, nonfiction, speculative memoir, modern gothic, and well.. anything in between really 😂
So the genre you write means less to me than the fact you are a writer that wants some support. Although obviously there could maybe be a buddy system for the most common genres so you get useful feedback as appropriate.
@t_l_wood I would love something like this. I've met lots of great like-minded writer folks on here but I'm always wary about assuming too much connection & anything more than polite interest.
