I've always loved the near-ethereal vibe of the original version of "Style" from 1989, but the new Taylor's Version takes it to a whole new level for me. 💙💙
Listened to #1989TaylorsVersion. #TaylorSwift's voice has changed a lot, and some of the songs are improved by age. Welcome To New York in particular now sounds like an older friend who's been around the block a few times singing to someone younger, which I prefer to the original, which sounds like someone who's only just moved to NYC and is a bit over-enthusiastic.
I love how "Slut!" is actually a love song and not a savage bop. I mean I was hoping for a punk rock bop for once but this Dress-like song is so perfect.
It makes me feel like I'm slowly falling in love with someone, in a quiet room with nobody else. And I don't even know how that feeling is like, because I'm just 16 and I've never even had a boyfriend.
Is It Over Now? is obviously so full of stories. The way she sings it shows how she still feels about the past relationship.
And it's an open book. It says everything she means... but it's also said in the way she usually says things: she implies her meaning, in a way you know what she's talking about but in a way that's trying not to state the obvious because truth hurts.
Also, Style reached 1 billion streams today on Spotify - a great way to close the OG versions and move on to the Taylor's Versions. Apparently some Reddit user manifested and the entire sub decided to just do it lol 😭 if we can have 30 million solved puzzles in less than 24 hours, this is possible too...
"And so it goes
You two are dancing in a snow globe, 'round and 'round
And he keeps the picture of you in his office downtown
And you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars
And why I've spent my whole life tryin' to put it into words"
