Some 6.8% of American adults are currently experiencing #LongCovid symptoms, according to a new survey from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), revealing an “alarming” increase in recent months even as the health agency relaxes Covid isolation recommendations, experts say. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/15/long-covid-symptoms-cdc
"More than three-quarters of people with mild COVID-19 reported experiencing insomnia after recovery, and it was more common among those with anxiety or depression, according to the results of a survey."
"Thousands of seniors are still dying of Covid-19. Do we not care anymore?"
“It boggles my mind that there isn’t more outrage,” said Alice Bonner, 66, senior adviser for aging at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. “I’m at the point where I want to say, ‘What the heck? Why aren’t people responding and doing more for older adults?’”
Munster says, “the biggest question was, ‘Does that mean these viruses don’t have the propensity to becoming seasonal?’” He thinks the coronavirus may someday have a season, but the determining factor won’t be the calendar. Instead, people’s immunity to the virus — from vaccination, prior infections or both — and human behavior will determine when COVID season hits, he predicts.
"Meanwhile, studies continue to pile up showing COVID can cause serious illness affecting every organ system in the body, even in vaccinated people with seemingly mild infections. It can cause cognitive decline and dysfunction consistent with brain injury; trigger immune damage and dysfunction; impair liver, kidney and lung function; and significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes."
"“We still see people getting long COVID — even if they’ve had COVID before, even if they’ve been vaccinated,” Goldzweig said."
"“It’s not about living in fear. It’s just about understanding that there are more risks to this than just a run-of-the-mill sore throat,” Hudson said."
"What is it like to catch Covid now? It is a question I have been pondering since a friend was surprised by how roughed up they were by it. Their third bout of Covid was significantly worse than the previous time they caught it."
@bentflyvbjerg: "Decision makers will want to do two things: (a) "cut the tail," to reduce risk by mitigation, and (b) practice the precautionary principle, i.e., avoid tail risk altogether by taking a cautious approach."
