maegul, to fediverse

Ooof

Reading this thread, I cannot help but think there's a gulf developing (or that has developed) between and old-school peeps and most of the developers looking to do things on the fediverse.

I'm no fan of 's dominance, but standardising a microblogging API around the foundation laid by mastodon and adopted (it seems) by many makes a lot of sense.

The "gulf" seems to be whether AP is "everything" or a "starting point"

alastor8472, to fediverse

A thread why I think has potential.

— Decentralized
Like , intents to be decentralized. This means that not Bluesky as a company will be part of it, but others can also join in.

The exciting part is that this is happening on multiple levels: where your data is stored, and how your feed is composed for your timeline.

Note: Right now the devs are working hard on making this happen, while currently everyone invited is on the same server.

alastor8472,

@shelenn I think the core problem is has core issues that is addressing with their AT protocol. (similar to and )

It’s not just for profit, they actually have had ActivityPub expertise when deciding on this route.

This is the way it has always been in IT. When an existing solution isn’t a silver bullet, new potential solutions arise, fail, merge, etc. It’s evolution.
