1/2 Had annual #IPP meeting with #RegionalCenter case manager for my son today. They don’t really offer him services yet but it’s there mostly for when he reaches adulthood. What stuck in my mind about this conversation was when they said “oh! So we should have a goal about more eye contact?” I couldn’t stop myself. “That’s ableist don’t you think?”
2/2 “I mentioned his self-regulatory strategy of having a distraction to moderate overstimulation to point out that this helps him engage better and may evolve as an accommodation.” Like eye contact is the actual end goal. 🙄
I just stumbled scross something amazing today while gathering medical notes for my son today. Without telling me, HMO actually added #ADHD to his #Autism diagnosis when they began prescribing him an ADHD med.
