In all the boxed-book kerfuffel, don’t overlook Ephemeral City’s remarkable cover design by the excellent Julia Favaloro who used the eight stories as the starting point and recurring numerical motif for this restrained and elegant design. #books #design #bookdesign #coverdesign #coverart #books

We can’t share Eugen Gomringer’s “ping pong” without also sharing the artist book it inspired, a favorite in the Letterform Archive collection. Martha Sophie Burkhardt created this edition of 12 as a Book Art student under professor Sabine Golde at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Germany, in 2018.

Hands page through a book with thick board pages, eventually forming a ping pong table.

I am looking to chat with fellow translators and friends in publishing who have experience working with EPUBs that contain character-based languages. Is the EPUB format able to display Chinese ideographs correctly? Are there certain limitations in terms of encoding? Thanks

Had a chat about pop-up books with an illustrator friend, we looked at a bunch of Soviet-era ones printed in Prague and Moscow.

There’s an interesting story around Soviet pop-up books, pioneered by the extremely productive Vojtěch Kubašta who worked for the government-run Artia publisher. His books were published in English, German and Swedish but have not seen any in Finnish.

Thinking of #14thCentury #Oxford thanks to the splendid #MedievalMurderMaps, I'm delighted to see that the #OxfordMedievalMysteries are on sale again. These evocative #novels by #AnnSwinfen are set in 1353-4, the adventures of a young #bookshop proprietor as life & business begin to normalise after the #plague.
Buy from https://www.hive.co.uk/Search/Search?Series=Oxford%20Medieval%20Mysteries & support your favourite #IndieBookshop, so that they too may live to write a #Bookseller's Tale!

Edited the previous post (apologies), as the image was not rendering properly in some browsers. #MastoHelp: Do shallow aspect ratios cause problems? I resized it to 16x9.

I was keen to show the #FirstEdition paperbacks, with cover designs by https://www.jdsmith-design.co.uk/, evoking #medieval #manuscript #illumination.

new instance, new #introduction:

I’m a #writer of #SFF. #wip stuff will have to go in another post.

I also do fiction #editing, print #bookDesign, #ebook design + #coding, #coverDesign, graphic design … an eclectic assortment of fields to have gained years of experience & expertise in … great for cofounding @tsi, a bootstrapped #smallPress, but at times makes covering the bills a bit of a challenge.
