Donald Trump uses the slow legal system to his advantage. The Supreme Court is helping (www.cnn.com)

The Supreme Court’s decision to hear Donald Trump’s claim that he should be shielded from criminal prosecution keeps the justices at the center of election-year controversy for several more months and means any verdict on Trump’s alleged subversion of the 2020 vote will not come before summer....

RTÉ stars get free cars - this is just wrong. They're paid extraordinary amounts by the State, and also get free cars slipped to them by the motor industry, each one formally approved by the public broadcaster - is it any wonder that they're not enthusiastic about safe infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians?
I had respect for some of these people before…

Room to Improve presenter Dermot Bannon has been a brand ambassador for Volvo for a number of years. In 2021, he promoted a plug-in hybrid SUV worth over €95,000 as part of an advertising campaign for “sustainable” cars. In 2020, 2fm star Lottie Ryan was announced as an “ambassador” for Toyota, featuring a photoshoot of Ryan in a brand new Yaris. Two weeks ago, she appeared in a video taken in the RTÉ car park showing off a Toyota BZ4X, an electric SUV priced at around €50,000. Baz Ashmawy, who currently presents DIY SOS, posted in March 2021 that he had become an ambassador for Opel Ireland. Mr Ashmawy posed beside an Opel Insignia Grand Sport.
Anna Geary, the sports star and TV presenter, was announced as a brand ambassador for Opel in 2019. A social media post said the presenter would spend the latter half of the year “driving in style and comfort in an Opel Grandland X”, which is currently starting at around €40,000 in price. Hugh Wallace, architect and Home of Year presenter, was last year announced as a brand ambassador for DS Automobiles. As part of the announcement, the car brand said that Mr Wallace had chosen to drive a DS 4 E-TENSE PHEV, which is worth over €50,000. RTE presenters – many of whom work as contractors and not as staff – engage in a number of commercial brand deals through personal appearances or sponsored social media content, which are separate to their work for RTÉ. Ms Thomas, Ms Garrihy, Mr Mullan, Mr Bannon, Ms Ryan, Mr Ashmawy and Ms Geary are all represented by NK Management. The management agency did not respond to requests for comment on behalf of each of the stars this week. Mr Wallace did not respond to a request for a comment yesterday.
Last month, Kathryn Thomas posted a photograph of a new Peugeot 408, prices for which start at around €40,000. Ms Thomas was given the car as part of her role as a “brand ambassador” for Peugeot Ireland. “I am so thrilled to have teamed up with Peugeot Ireland and look forward to many a road trip in the alluring 408 around our gorgeous country.” Doireann Garrihy poses with a Renault Clio In June, 2fm presenter Carl Mullan showed followers the electric car that he had been given by Skoda Ireland as part of a commercial relationship. The brand new Skoda Enyaq RS, which retails for over €70,000, was given to Mr Mullan to drive “over the next few months”. The radio presenter told his followers that Skoda had gotten in touch with him after his family bought one of the brand’s cars and Mr Mullan “wouldn’t shut up” online about how much he loved it.
