Last year we had Fem vs Puck vs Shirin with Lucinda Brand and Ceylon Alvarado always close at hand. This year Puck was Mtn Biking and Shirin was injured. Fem won everything and Ceylon and Lucinda won when she wasn't there. Other than Zoe Bäckstedt not much happened.
The men's side was similar. Last year we had the Iserbyt vs Sweeck grudge match in the early part of the year, followed by the Big Three lighting up a number of races and the Rainbow Jersey being won by inches. This year, Wout was a non-factor (trying to lose weight for the Giro?), Pidcock was also a non-factor (Mtn and Road). Sweeck had a terrible year and MVDP won everything by a country mile (or kilometer).
Kinda boring if you ask me. Hope next year will be more interesting!
I am the opposite on Fem and MVDP, no accounting for taste, eh? I would also say, in retrospect I should have said "less interesting" and not "more boring," but it did get a discussion going and I am all for that!
I envy your cyclocross attendance. I have only been to one World Cup event, 2022 Waterloo. We had never really watched cyclocross and didn't really know what was going on.
Fem won and we were just feet from poor Ceylin who was crushed because she didn't make the podium. Eli won the men's race, but I didn't know I didn't like him yet.
We started out for the this year's Waterloo, but had car trouble and ended up watching it on TV. I'm still bummed about that.
I totally admit my not being a fan of MVDP (and Pogi and Remco) is totally irrational, I don't know why I have reacted this way. Yes, I am a fan of the underdog, but that doesn't explain it.
Also have to say that one thing that totally amazed about seeing cross in person was how FAST -- really FAST -- those guys are in person. I can only imagine what it might be like to have MVDP blast by in all his glory.
@MylesRyden@DurableAce I remember watching MvdP and Michael Vanthourenhout race in Louisville at the 2013 World Championships. Little did we know how successful they would be. That was also the year Sven beat Vantournout because of catching a pedal on the fencing right in front of me.
I’ve been fortunate to race at Waterloo (as an amateur) and had Sven and Lars ride past me during my warm up. That’s a fun course to watch and race on.
