I know this is a silly question, especially as I'm currently focused on local-only feeds, but there's just one part of the Fediverse I wish would get more love: PeerTube. While there aren't a lot of people actively looking for alternative video hosts outside the big guys (Twitch, YouTube, Dailymotion, etc.), it would be nice to...
Our subscriptions mostly pay for the salesmen and the ads. They sell ads first, IT second. So I'm not gonna cry for RedHat. The image of the poor developers working in a cave, struggling to make money is only in our mind. They had a perfectly functional model but decided to sabotage some of it to try to squeeze even more money....
Since we are building new communities, it's important that those of us who want to play an active role setting up these communities, either as active users or moderators, know when people engage in them....
Hi there, in the upcoming kbin releases, I will be describing the changes along with author tags, but for now, you can check out what's happening here: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/activity, as well as my personal feed: https://ernest.dev...
Little stuff like this is how we're going to get the Fediverse from 0 to 1.
A pretty good summation of this whole upcoming thing I've mentioned. It's definitely more focused on the microblogging side i.e. the Mastodon-powered instances especially but same concerns, regardless.
I understand why it's called that, I just wish it was called "verse" or something less lame sounding.
So, I'm very confused! I've got 2 questions:...
This is going to be kbin focused because that's the infra I'm most familiar with, but if any part of this is relevant to Lemmy and other upcoming aggregators it's worth a think too:...
Hello /c/Eugene! I'm so happy you exist!...
Obvious joke post.. not saying its easy to know what u do on this NETWORK but hey its better as a NETWORK than any one WEBSITE!...
From a technical standpoint, the protocol (ActivityPud) underlying Lemmy and Kbin has security and performance faults that make it inefficient. It's a great step towards decentralization but there is another alternative that I want to raise awareness of: Nostr....
Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...
On KBin we have the ability to add tags to posts. These can either be directly added using the “pound” sign octothorpe, as in #KbinMeta. You can also add tags using the “Tags” field when creating an article, link, or photo. The second method will append the tags to the end of the post when the post is federated....
One of the main issues I have with the Fediverse is that I can't view any of the posts on Fedi. sites in my RSS feed. is there any way to fix this, and if not I would really like to see that feature added somehow.
No need for them to chase the next big platform like reddit/facebook/google+, and no need to create "official accounts" on each....
Like most who’ve joined kbin or lemmy, I’m actively looking for more communities to subscribe to. We don’t have a way to do a centralized search for these across instances yet, so I’m sure there’s some I’ve overlooked. What smaller technology related groups have you discovered that could use more publicity?...
Meta wants to make it easy for billions of Instagram users to sign up for Threads on launch day....
Codeberg is experiencing stability issues today. I love this place, the entire ecosystem that helped me integrate repository functionality with Matrix chat room, translations, and everything in the spirit of Free and Open Software. Lately, we've been making a lot of noise there. Today, I decided to provide a small support, and I...
I can't even begin to explain this without getting into what fediverse politics has been but i thought this would be of interest to you guys regardless. The TLDR is that Meta's been developing their own ActivityPub project (and with it instances) under P92. And apparently they had a meeting with key figures especially on the...
