A beta version of 2.15 arrived at F-Droid. It looks great and now uses Material 3 theme. Be aware: To install this version you need to explicitly select it in F-Droid.

A new minor version has been released which brings GIF import, compatible stickers and other improvements.

A new version has been released bringing fixes and improvements from Conversations to Snikket users.
This means:
Users who do not want to use a beta version should be able to use the stable version in a few days (F-Droid needs to finish the build, signing and deployment process for all apps of the current build cycle before the apps are published).
Many of my friends are unhappy with members of private group and admin of public semi-anonymous groups being able to see phone number of a member since #Quicksy and #Prav currently takes the phone number as username.
We want to change this in @prav and allow Prav users to choose a custom username which will hide their phone number in groups.

I have personally found it impossible to get friends with iOS on #xmpp whereas friends with Android were happy to join via #Quicksy. We are raising funds to build Prav App on iOS, please contribute and spread the word. https://opencollective.com/prav-ios
Since we announced the campaign, Monal developers announced they will be building the Quicksy variant so that is less work for us to fund (we still need to develop support for custom usernames and also pay #Apple for publishing).
Whatsapp, Telegram, Signal, Element... vous n'y connaissez rien et vous demandez que choisir et quels sont les enjeux ?
Déjà ce qui différentie Element / Signal de Telegram : ils sont chiffrés de bout en bout.
Quand tu envoies un message sur Telegram, la coquille est chiffrée, donc n'importe qui peut pas écouter ton réseau et ouvrir ton message. Par contre, ton message est envoyé aux serveurs de Telegram, qui eux peuvent le lire (pas de chiffrement de bout en bout).
Anti-écolo c'est peut-être extrême (on parle d'informatique, pas d'aviation…), mais c'est très gourmand côté serveur en ressource, ce qui explique l'hypercentralisation autour de matrix.org (auto-hébergement couteux). Alors qu'un serveur XMPP avec plein d'utilisateurs sur un raspberry pi 1, ça passe…
Have you convinced a full normie to #XMPP? How has it gone? Were there any problems or need of being help desk? Why is "ok" Monal the best client for iOS?
Sure, family, friends... The easiest onboarding was #Quicksy.im (Android only) by @daniel.
A typical "full normie" forgets their password and at some point (new device or whatever) they need it. Quicksy solves this by using the phone number as id and SMS password reset.
A #Monal fork with the same functionality would be awesome.
#Telegram habe ich nun gelöscht. Das immer schon damit einhergehende ungute Gefühl wollte ich nicht länger ertragen. #Signal wird wohl auch noch vom Gerät fliegen. Fällt mir natürlich leicht, weil beide ungenutzt sind. Wer will sich schon mit mir unterhalten? 😉 #Threema werde ich vorerst behalten. Weil mir bekanntlich Datenschutz wichtig ist, habe ich wieder ein #XMPP Konto eingerichtet. Mal sehen, ob es je zur Anwendung kommt 😊
#Jabber funktioniert bei mir u.a. gut, weil ich es im Freundeskreis aktiv beworben habe. Mein Argument war: Du erreichst mich entweder per #XMPP oder gar nicht per Chat. Ohne das hätte es leider fast niemand genutzt. Untereinander nutzen sie nach wie vor Whatsapp und Telegram.
