Today I shall be mostly working on rulebooks for my , before the launch of the for my novel in April.

People exist that will make a bad house rule, decide the bad outcome it causes is the fault of the rules, and talk about the crappiness of the game loudly.

I have long held that this looms large in design thinking to a wildly disproportionate degree, and designers trying to control for it are doing the equivalent of "Design for the crappiest player", which is a terrible waste.

The polls I'm running are a stab at opening this belief up to check on it; this post, another.

So: Your view?

@LeviKornelsen is it a way to say that you chose, by design, to exclude neophyte players?

Do you assume people will be able to understand your rules without sharing a gaming background with you or your peers?

Or do you try to explain game mechanics to neophytes but not "dummies"?
