There is a total solar eclipse close to Toronto on April 8, around 3pm. This is very rare and an exciting opportunity - think about what you're up to that Monday and whether you can get into the path so you can see it!
You can see an animation of where it will be visible here: https://fb.watch/pW3RnMQfP-/ (jump to 2:20 to see Ontario)
Tonight, if the clouds allow me, I wanted to take pictures with my #Skywatcher Star Adventurer mini. As I'm going to set up a small telescope (a #Celestron C90) I need a very good alignment to the Polar so that I don't have any traces left. #Tips to make an alignment as accurate as possible? Thank you #astrophotography
Messier 13, also known as the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules, is approximately 25,000 light-years away and has a diameter of about 145 light-years. It is estimated to contain around 300,000 stars!
This is a quick capture and stack of "The Spider and the Fly Nebula". I'm not sure this region is going to make my list of primary targets, but I filled some time before and after Orion over the last two nights to accrue 49 x 5 minute subs for a grand total of 4h5m. What do you think? Should I keep imaging it?
More dark/reflection nebula with LBN 681! This is an interesting region of space with lots of dust colorfully illuminated. I've seen some other images with Ha mixed in and it's even more interesting, so I'll add that in once the moon reappears.
This is NGC 4565, commonly referred to as Needle Galaxy. Finding targets during Galaxy Season (spring) is challenging with widefield scopes like mine, but sometimes it's fun to charge ahead with interesting objects and see what I can do.
Big project alert! This image is an area in Cygnus containing both the North America nebula (big blue area) and the Pelican nebula (bump in the top middle). This area is rich in OIII, which gives it a nice blue color with certain processing. This is over 25h of total exposure time across the two panels of the mosaic.
Messier 106 is one of the larger galaxies visible in the northern hemisphere and has an interesting fainter disk around a bright core. There are also a number of other smaller galaxies in the area that you can see highlighted in the second image.
Kudos to all the amazing people who make and provide all the equipment and software that allows me to basically push some buttons and take photos like the Cocoon nebula. The sky was hazy and smoky, and yet 86 x 60s exposures still pulled in the nebula. I am deeply grateful. #Celestron#skywatcher#ZWO #nina#phd2
