Sun and moon combo: I finally got some OK skies overnight last night and few enough clouds to shoot through during the day today to get another moon/sun combo. These images were captured a little over 9 hours apart.

Picture of the day: An ocellaris clownfish dancing among the tentacles of its anemone host. These fish were everywhere in Dumaguete, Philippines but they are in constant motion, so they are not easy to capture.

@snowgaze Right?! I didn't take any video of them, but I should have. I'd love to share just how wiggly they are!

No 2.5 hour road trip to witness an aurora last night. I slummed it in my back garden!

@iangriffin So nice! I'm hoping I get another shot at it soon - we had a very pink/red experience, but I'd love to mix in some green.

My dry suit recently sprung a small leak in the wrist seal. I decided to do my own wrist seal replacement, so I wrote up a blog post about it. This isn't a full tutorial of how to do it - I'll leave that to the pros. This is more meant as a tips and tricks/overview of the process to help others decide if they want to do it themselves.

I've put 2 cold water dives on the new seal and it works great!

Astronomers discover new Earth-sized world orbiting an ultra-cool star

https://phys.org/news/2024-05-astronomers-earth-sized-world-orbiting.html

"Next steps for the project could include follow-up observations by the James Webb Space Telescope, which would deliver important insights into the planet's surface mineralogy, and the potential for an atmosphere."

@richard I assume "ultra-cool" refers to the temperature, but it sounds pretty neat too 😄

@jda you can, but I would prefer if you didn't. That was a brutal finish 🥵

The has serious officiating issues. Too many reviews, indecisive calls, bad calls and just too many calls. No flow.

webcubus,
@webcubus@astrodon.social avatar

@spelled_with_a_k @Phreba I would have lost my damn mind if that gentle brush on Bobrovsky was deemed interference

webcubus,
@webcubus@astrodon.social avatar

@spelled_with_a_k @Phreba they've set the threshold to "goalie gets yeeted into the stands from the crease by significant contact" and there's no going back now.

the refereeing is a joke. Clearly they are only looking at the Bruins. Because the Cats are angels.

What a joke.

webcubus,
@webcubus@astrodon.social avatar

@spelled_with_a_k why have a goaltender interference call if you're not going to apply it? I get missing the push live, but there's just no excuse for looking at the replay and not calling it. Best sport, terrible league.

webcubus,
@webcubus@astrodon.social avatar

@spelled_with_a_k oh, and don't even get me started on the "interference" that created that powerplay. OEL throws his head back after a small push from Lindholm and somehow we're short-handed. What is even happening?!

Seeing the northern lights with my own eyes was an amazing experience this weekend! I wrote up a blog post about it and assembled a new video. Check it out!

Not a great image, because I was shooting around the clouds but I had to capture the source of our Aurora fun. That big chunk on the right side has been blasting us with solar mass to light up the sky!

webcubus,
@webcubus@astrodon.social avatar

@Powerfromspace1 I don't know, the surface of the sun doesn't seem like a very safe place to hang out generally 😂

webcubus,

It's not quite as active now, but the aurora was wild earlier. This was just a simple night lapse on my Hero11 - we could see colors and pillars with the naked eye, but the camera is next level

PSA: If the sun is out where you are and you still have your eclipse glasses, put them on and take a look at the sun. There is a giant sunspot visible on the lower right side. I took pictures of it a couple days ago, but it's still wild to see it with my own eyes.

Also, if you live in the northern latitudes, there's a chance for some strong aurora activity tonight. If it's clear, I'll be pointing my camera north to see if I can get anything!

Just published a blog post about how to replace your fiber optic cables on your underwater photography rig on the cheap! Underwater photography is expensive, so let's save a few bucks where we can. I have been shooting with these cables for awhile and they are very reliable.
