@feld look at this unholy process, how do you even explain that. 😱

I'm not and yes I think batteries are also no option.

Granted, there are sufficient technologies that work, regardless if or even better handleable and much more energy-dense and storeable: .

Also power exists and it's trivial as it uses the economies of scale you get from any thermal powerplant - nuclear or fossil or geothermal.

Also all turbines and generators need those...

Interesting solar hot water heating issue today that I just happened to catch by accident. I heard the electric heating element turn on even though it’s a clear, sunny day. Checked and the device panel, temperature above 200˚F, but return pipe was barely warm. Increased pump speed, no help. Hooked up hoses to drain the glycol into bucket while pumping it back in another connector and a lot of trapped air was released. It had a vapor lock.
Have hit this issue a couple times in recent years. Something in the system is letting air leak in. It’s an old unit, the electric company gave it to previous owners in the late 70’s’ or early 80's in exchange for meter readings. I've changed out the tank a couple times, but that's about it.

@jerzone I believe the charge in the expansion vessel would be set before filling and commissioning the system, and depend on static head amongst other factors. Perhaps before tinkering it’s worth just doing two pressure checks a week apart under similar conditions - preferably early morning before the system heats up 🤷‍♂️ I’m sure there’s a proper expert on here somewhere

Anyone have any experience running solar thermal and/or heat pumps on private water supplies (i.e: low pressure)? Can it be done and is just less efficient? Did you need an accumulator to raise the pressure?

The kids I grew up with knew I was "different", but my parents and school insisted I was normal. Now I've explored and and have an idea what was going on, but then I thought everyone saw the world like I did, just coped better. I coped by becoming a by age three when I realized my girl self would have to be hidden. After six "guy" IDs, I'm now back being that girl. Still running the system, but with more E and less T...

Age nine I was forced to wear glasses every waking moment. Shattered my body sense and - https://www.psychoros.com/consumed-by-the-light/ Spent endless days of lonely boredom exploring the ~30° wedges of and the flat dioramas between them. Now I'm rebuilding a 3D world around my body, where can have a single basis and depth can pop out of the flat distance like content from a random dot stereogram.

Despite all that, I've been online since and , wrote the first magazine article with simultaneous code distribution (via 8" floppies in the post), coded fab robots to move 6" & 8" Silicon wafers, built my (almost) independent and house (7K lines of C++ from 1998, 42 device outs), and evolved an audio system with bandwidth from DC to a half MHz. Helped raise four unique kids, as adult minds in young bodies. Still mystify most of the adults I encounter...
