I will give Twila Kilgore a very small amount of credit: this is a marginally more interesting lineup than Wednesday's. At least Murphy and Demelo get the start.
But it's still pretty damn boring. Does Twila really see herself as a total placeholder coach who should show no creativity whatsoever? Or does she think this is the way to advance?
Don’t kill the messenger. This #USWNT is polarizing. Politics, causes, stances, & behavior have made this team unlikeable to a portion of America. This team has built its brand and has derived its power from being the best/winning. If that goes away they risk becoming irrelevant.
The #CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup is starting up tonight. #Mexico vs #Argentina currently on, then #USWNT vs #DominicanRepublic at 10:15pm ET. You can watch on Paramount+ if you haven't canceled your #NWSL subscriptions already
As a #USWNT fan, this Women's World Cup is making me so sad. Of course other teams can be better than us, show up and outplay us on a given day, whatever. We're not perfect and we're ingesting a lot of new talent right now. But to be taken down by this KNOWN, increasingly-obvious problem of having the wrong coach... this sucks. I feel bad for our team. I'll be very happy if proven wrong in the remainder of this tourney. #fifawwc#wwc2023@wwc
OK, I'm wiped out from the exhaustive "post-mortems" on the NOT ACTUALLY DEAD #USWNT. The latest one - it just appeared in my mailbox, from people I really like - says something about how "this can be fixed so it never happens again." Y'all. It's BORING if Germany, or the US, or Japan, or Norway (or the as-yet-have-not-won-a-WC England, or Nigeria, or Jamaica, or Colombia, etc). wins EVERY TIME. Also, it's SUPERB to make it to the round of 16!
First, the back line. Snubbing Tierna is a choice. We have one (1) option with recent CB experience in major tournament play and we're not bringing her?
What's the backup plan if Girma or Cook can't handle things? "Move Ertz to CB"? Ok, but she's still recovering from injury+childbirth.
The backup plan's Sonnett, isn't it? I enjoy chaos as much as anyone but Sonnett-for-Sauerbrunn is *not *a like for like.
Of all the possible XIs for this game with Lavelle out, Vlatko starting Sonnett over just about anyone else is a real head-scratcher. (And I like Sonnett.) What a message he's sending to Cook, Mewis, and Sanchez, in particular.
If they win, he'll look like a genius (or lucky af); but if they lose, he'll surely be fired before their plane lands back in the US.
That feeling when you’re getting excited about doing a fun Saturday night thing, then remember that the #USWNT kicks off at 5 am tomorrow. Thanks Vlatko. @wwc
Gonna take this injury break to remind folks who are new on Mastodon to follow hashtags… like #USWNT or #FIFAWWC, if anyone uses them, they show up in your feed! For general soccer/football, most of us use #MastodonFC

If it's a coaching issue and the talent is there for #USWNT, does that mean that in the #NWSL, FCKC could've made it to and won a championship in 2013? They could've made the playoffs and won the championship in 2016 and 2017? Reign could've gone back-to-back in 2018 and 2019? @wwc
