#fatigue#LeCafeCestLaVie #droitaladeconnexion #CaVaChauffer

This via #SoundCamp (the team that gave us #Reveil, inter alia) on, cough, cough, some other social media site.
tl;dr: #Iklectik is in trouble, and needs our help.
"Iklectik, S London's most important sound art / experimental music venue, is under immediate threat from proposed demolition / development of Old Paradise Yard.
birdradio: not really a radio, not just for birds. Raspberry Pi 3 with Pisound card and power bank; Wildtronics stereo PIP mic; bird feeder pole+base. Serves audio stream on the local network. Software: darkice+icecast2.
Main intention is to run this in the winter when the windows are closed and we can't hear the ambient sound of the outside world.
You might think of it as field recording as a continuous ephemeral stream.
#Reveil2023 ~ a stream of living song & sounds that follows the dawn chorus west for 25 hrs. currently streaming from the wet wet wet Mississippi River gorge: http://soundtent.org/reveil/#/
respect to all for pushing through server chaos to create the 10th #DawnChorusDay - a heroic creative collaboration.
it's deep listening. #Reveil feels a bit like SETI@Home, or a commons-created planetary media experiment in the vein of the BBC's 1967 Our World multi-satellite TV broadcast, or the Golden Record 🌏🎶
Well, phew!! This year's #Reveil very nearly didn't make it. Tl;dr: LocuSonus, the web-site and soundmap Reveil relies on, died on us - and it did it around midnight, with practically no time to do anything. This meant that quite a few streaming locations - those that relied on the Locuscast Android app or the Streambox Raspbian distributions, which are preconfigured to connect to Locusonus automatically, couldn't join the stream.
Those of us who were using other software to connect to the streaming mountpoint weren't affected, but we had to scramble to fill in gaps in the programme; and many of the streamers scrambled to find alternative solutions.
So, we very nearly didn't make it, but make it we did. Congratulations to the SoundCamp team for weathering the storm and finding a way forward - and let's hope the rest of the broadcast works out satisfactorily.
And now, more birdies (we're over Portugal now, listening to Osso Radio):
Birdies are winning against wind gusts and nearby motorway, for the time being. This will likely change in about half an hour (it's 06:20 UTC+2 here). #Reveil
Aside from managing and mixing streams from every time zone on the planet, last year SoundCamp, the organizers of #Reveil, also built a cool Portable Auditorium in Stave Hill Ecological Park, London.
@adamgreenfield I actually discovered it through the #Reveil project, and didn't start taking part until 2020. Before that, I had only heard about it, and found the idea of people staying up to gather someplace to listen to the birds waking up sounded strange, like some very peculiar post-Situationist group of art saboteurs. (Ok, it's still a bit like that, but it has become more relevant as of recent.)
Had a blast doing some live listening/tuning/testing w Shortwave Collective for the 2023 Open Hardware Summit in NYC last night.
I was nestled between car bonnet, bins & bushes of North London with my DIY radio receiver + trusty pencil/razor diode combo at the helm… Attempting to use this beautiful old sign as my antenna…
@tinysound I had been aware of it for about a decade, but didn't get into it until the lockdown, which is when I started properly listening to the dawn chorus. Before that, Dawn Chorus Day sounded to me like some 1970s Russian Conceptualists gathering in a field or something. Like some post-Situ performance group. Or a choir of sound artists and singers hellbent on blending in with the birdsong.
So, yeah, finding #Reveil has been pretty important, I'd say.
