I'm not saying "drill a hole through your #Baofeng" but what I am saying is, I widened the mic hole with a tiny hand drill and my voice does not sound nearly so muffled... if you do this, you could drill through your mic... which would not be good... also dust and things... and no more warranty... on your Baofeng #UV5r etc
Edit: Actually, I did this to two Baofengs and both sound better on the other end now... wind and plosives are an issue... but I side-mic anyway
#CyberSecurity#Backdoor#Encryption#Radios#Hacking: "A group of cybersecurity researchers has uncovered what they believe is an intentional backdoor in encrypted radios used by police, military, and critical infrastructure entities around the world. The backdoor may have existed for decades, potentially exposing a wealth of sensitive information transmitted across them, according to the researchers.
While the researchers frame their discovery as a backdoor, the organization responsible for maintaining the standard pushes back against that specific term, and says the standard was designed for export controls which determine the strength of encryption. The end result, however, are radios with traffic that can be decrypted using consumer hardware like an ordinary laptop in under a minute.
“There's no other way in which this can function than that this is an intentional backdoor,” Jos Wetzels, one of the researchers from cybersecurity firm Midnight Blue, told Motherboard in a phone call."
@tiamat271@ai6yr Technically GMRS requires a license. The fee for the license is $35, but there is no test- just apply and pay online. The license is valid for 10 years and covers your entire family. FRS does not require anything but purchasing radios, but supposedly doesn’t have as much distance as GMRS (and distance could be increased if you are near GMRS repeaters.) Radio questions always seem to be a can of worms!😉 #GMRS#FRS#Radios
