Last hill for my Sardinia trip, 🌲 Monte Pino (“Pine Mountain”) IS0/IS-120, 742 m. Evening walk up to the summit lookout from the ranger station. Extreme geomagnetic storm meant it took half an hour to get the required 4 radio contacts - all groundwave I suspect. #sardinia#hamr#hills#summitsontheair#sota
First ever #summitsontheair station on the summit of Punta Maggiore (IS0/IS-064) in #Sardina (970m). I made 8 SSB contacts on 14MHz with my Elecraft KX2 and EFHW. Pathless scramble to the summit 🧗♂️🏞️ Thanks Chasers! #hamradio#sota#italy#mountains#hiking
Last weekend I activated Semaforo IS0/IS-266 (“Traffic Light”) on the island of Sardinia. This special hill hosts the ruins of a radio laboratory used by Marconi, who was born 150 years ago. #sardegna#hamradio#sota#italy#SummitsOnTheAir#PortableOps
N7OLE, W7MTB, and myself are heading to Willamette Pass Ski Resort this morning to activate W7O/CM-123. Cell is spotty so we'll be relying on RBN and SOTAmat to spot. Please listen for us and hope to get y'all in the log. We'll do some SSB too.
Put us in HamAlert and look for spots on SOTAwatch.
Hiked up 🗻 Cnoc an Daimh Mor (GM/NS-142) in northern Scotland 🏴 to operate its first “Summits On The Air” radio station. Was one of the last unactivated summits in the UK. 17.5km of bog and peat maze. 29 hours driving to get there and back. 1 point. 💪🏻😃 #sota#hamradio#summitsontheair#hf#elecraft#portableops
Activated Moncreiffe Hill (GM/SS-276) today near Perth. An easy 1pt #SummitsOnTheAir hill with a good path to the top. Three contacts on 2m and two on 20m. #hamradio
A beautiful ☀️ sunny day atop Bredon Hill (G/CE-003) a few days ago operating amateur radio 📻 for the #SummitsOnTheAir scheme. We were treated to great views including a snow-capped Worcestershire Beacon in the distance. 8x stations worked in about twenty minutes. #hamradio#portable#sota
🌄Ruardean Hill (G/WB-021) and 🌄Seager Hill (G/WB-022) are two 1-point #SummitsOnTheAir hills I ticked off last month. 15 local contacts between the two using my #Yaesu FTM100D radio. There's been a lot of deforestation at Seager Hill since I visited a few years ago. #hamr#sota
🧵1/3: SOTA peeps you want to read this. I've found this nifty new #SummitsOnTheAir tool for users of @ARRL Logbook of the World by Jack G5JDA and it's pretty mega.. #hamradio#amateurradio#hamr#sota
Today's #SOTA activation was almost a bust. After setting up my radio I discovered that I was missing the cable for my morse paddle. Forced to do SSB, I spent 25 minutes calling before I realized my text spots were not getting out. I eventually managed enough cell signal to get a spot out on 40m and things got rolling. Plenty of QSOs and S2S across 40m, 10m, and 20m. #HamRadio#SummitsOnTheAir
Three small #SummitsOnTheAir walks today, Black Mountain, Aconbury Hill and Sugar Loaf - 15 points in total. A fair few contacts on 2m and four on 40m at Sugarloaf. #hamradio#amateurradio
On a recent trip to Edinburgh I activated Arthur's Seat GM/SS-272 (251m) for the Summits on the Air scheme. A pleasant little 1-point summit walking distance from the city centre. An early weekday start meant the summit was quiet 🏔️🚶🏻 #sota#summitsontheair#hillwalking
Happy new year SOTA peeps and Hams! Next Tuesday morning I’m going to attempt an activation of Arthur's Seat GM/SS-272 in Edinburgh. Will be trying 2m FM first. Will update the alert time on the day I expect. #hamradio#summitsontheair 🏔️
I learned about Fediverse groups today and noticed that there isn't one for #SummitsOnTheAir, so let's make one! Follow the below address to join and mention to post to the group!
HNY! This evening, just before 4pm PST, we will be on the air doing #SOTA for the New Year UTC rollover. With W7MTB and N7OLE, please work all of us. After 4pm we'll be sharing the station working #SSB and passing the mic around until we are too cold. Hope to get y'all in the log!
A bit breezy in the Brecons today but managed to activate three ⛰️for #SummitsOnTheAir netting 23 points. The last activation of the day at Craig y Llyn GW/SW-010 was my 400th activation 🥸 Good conditions on 14MHz band. #hamradio#amateurradio
Getting some use out of my self built APRS tracker (by F4GOH) during some weekend #SOTA walks. Longest packet 78 miles at 500mW. Working better with a new 18650 cell. #hamradio#summitsontheair
