Today was a win for front-foot football. It didn't look like it would be; it seemed as if the negative game - bus-parking and time-wasting - would triumph.
But justice was done in the most compelling of ways. Throughout so frustrating, but ultimately glorious. COYS!
In 1990 I attended my first football match. #Tottenham at home to Sheffield United at White Hart Lane.
We (#Spurs) won 4-0. Paul Walsh scored a hattrick. #Nayim got the other.
My two heroes were there: #Gazza played the first half before going off injured at half time. #GaryLineker was the other substitute, unused.
Tomorrow I’m off to the very same fixture. Back then it was El Tel in charge. Now it’s Big Ange. Both larger than life figures who love to play exciting, expansive football. COME ON YOU SPURS.
@spurs The knee-jerk reaction of fans and the media that whip up the frenzy even further is quite remarkable.
Because #Spurs drew away at a good Premier League team and went out on penalties tonight we’ve suddenly ‘thrown away our best chance of silverware’ and its an ‘absolute disgrace that we didn’t take it seriously enough’ because ‘had we played the same team as at the weekend we would have won with 100% certainty and therefore most likely have gone on to win the cup’. 😂
It’s totally laughable.
Just a little reminder that the so called first team* also drew away at a good Premier League team in the first game of the season.
(*There’s no such thing as a first team, it’s a squad game.)
Saying ‘it’s on Ange’ or ‘Ange didn’t take it seriously’ because we made nine changes is complete nonsense. It’s football. It happens. It happened. Nobody on our side wanted it to. Nobody on our side tried to make it happen. But it did.
Have some respect for your opponents and indeed for your own players.
Keep on reminding yourselves that the four years of antispurs is finally over. We are beginning to play attractive football again. The Spurs way. We have our #Tottenham back. We’re not going to suddenly win every match. Or did you think that’s what would happen?
I’d probably call the color “US Army pink”, after the drab trousers worn as part of the service dress uniform in the 1940s. There was a faint pinkish hue in the khaki. The army informally called the uniform “pinks and greens”.
Anyway, that kit is awful, and I hope I never see it again.
Solid 2-0 win from Tottenham in the early match today.
Once again, a lot of positives to take from the game from a Spurs perspective. Great football, great result, great management, and a clean sheet.
The subs came at the right time and #Højbjerg in particular was great and instrumental in killing The Cherries' building momentum, no doubt exactly what Ange was going for.
Early days, but a lot of strong signs from the new look #Tottenham.
