Randomly browsing Google Maps & saw this interesting change:

  • Selecting a place highlights the building
  • Small green arrows appearing, seems to indicate possible entrances/exits
  • Upon further inspection, seems like they could be derived from Street View imagery

@cheeaun yeah from time to time. I use Maps a LOT, though, so maybe I get more than the average person. I didn't think about the street view folk that walk about. Almost all of the street view stuff I'm familiar with is from cars driving about. I guess in urban and pedestrian zones, it must be people. I was aware too of people on bikes (trikes, I think?) riding around.

@lastwordonsport Yeah, I think a lot of people possibly don't bother with the #MastodonFC tag. I try to keep it up in all my footie posts. I like to use groups like @spurs and @epl wherever I can because they can be added to lists and all the benefits that brings, and the posts more reliably federate. Shouldn't have to think about this tech stuff, but it's relatively early days for the fediverse and rough edges abounds, like early Twitter.

Quick question: is it worth continuing with the stuff here on Masto?

The community seems to be shrinking while Bluesky continues to grow.

Does it matter?

What is it that Bluesky offers that Masto doesn't?

I've come to realise it's quality of connections on social media that matters rather than volume. So perhaps it being relatively quiet here is a plus?

It has been very quiet of late, though. Perhaps it's just because we've been playing badly?

@SwellWines @spurs I'm sticking around and won't be going over to Bluesky any time soon. I don't think it's significantly better, but it looks a lot more like Twitter so I think it suits those leaving Twitter who still actually liked Twitter pre-Musk.

The @nfl group is I think the biggest of all the Mastodon groups. Best ask there.

Tip for using busy groups: follow it, add to a list, set the list to "hide from home timeline". Posts on that list then only appear in the list, creating a nice separation from you main timeline.

Hopefully we'll be able to add hashtags to lists too one day, but not possible at the moment.

You can't put hashtags in lists, so you can't, for instance, put and in a list and hide those posts from home. But you can put @spurs and @soccer and @epl in a list and hide those messages from home. It makes sense when you try it.
