Thanks to a poorly chosen font and some good natured fun, the The International Astronomical Union has officially named Venus' quasi-moon 2002VE as 'Zoozve'.

Thanks to Kovi at @funfactscience for sharing!

The story is right up there with the Nome, AK story[1], the Friday Harbor story[2], and the Nootka story[3].

[1]: A village with no name, marked “none” on the map, and misread
[2]: “What bay is this?” shouted from a ship. “Friday” shouted from shore.
[3]: “What do you call this channel?” asked of an indigenous people. “Nootka.” (Go back the way you came)

Zoozve followup!

The Venus quasi-moon has officially been renamed Zoozve! ( from 2002-VE68 )

And there may be a contest soon to name one of Earth's quasi-moons.

I'm not a regular listener of the Radiolab podcast but I happened to hear this episode, Zoozve, and loved it.

A solar system mystery! Quasi-moons! Weird orbits! It was a lot of fun 😁
