What they call the "far right" is literally just traditional right wing you would have seen in the 90s and before. In April of 2008 Georgia got semi approval to join NATO, in august Russia invaded to stop that. Its the same reason they invaded Ukraine, russia has actually been very clear that they dont want those countries in nato. The news likes to just tell us the propaganda points, and omits how both of those wars/invasions were preventable if we had not gotten involved .
I dont know if the care about EU status, but they do care about NATO memebership, and that was the reason they invaded the countries they did. I am not saying its good, I am just giving the reason, and I dont think they care about Moldova.
Russia claim (probably correctly) that the west overturned the election of the people they liked and so they annexed the part that had their port. For better or worse, all of their invasions were tied to what they saw as aggressive moves by NATO or NATO countries.
