Israel announces largest West Bank land seizure since 1993 during Blinken visit (www.washingtonpost.com)

Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, announced the seizure of 10 square kilometers (3.8 square miles) of Palestinian territory in the West Bank on Friday. The move marks the single largest land seizure by the Israeli government since the 1993 Oslo accords, according to Peace Now, a settlement watchdog group....

3volver,

The only humiliating thing is that the US still gives Israel money.

3volver,

They also eat jumping spiders, which is why I kill them.

3volver,

Also why doesn’t this disqualify religious organizations from tax exempt status under 501c3?

“no substantial part of the activities of which is carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting, to influence legislation”

3volver,

House Republicans would ban school all together if they could.

3volver,

China could take Taiwan very quickly because it’s a tiny little island.

I assume you have little military knowledge. Personally I don’t make claims like this at all because I know the limits of my own knowledge. If China were to attempt to take Taiwan it would be devastating for both countries. War is absolute shit, many civilians would die, and what would China really gain? They’d gain being on America’s shitlist which historically is terrible. Be careful with statements like these, they’re the same ones I read right before Russia invaded Ukraine.

3volver,

Yea, for all the people who think the senate is necessary, here you go. 2 senators per state is why we have to deal with this bullshit.

3volver,

You can’t claim to be an environmentalist and be anti-nuclear energy at the same time.

3volver,

Absolute horseshit take.

3volver,

I don’t see anything about factoring in regulation. Also, how many instances of human trafficking go unreported? They seem to rely heavily on the idea that all cases of human trafficking are reported. It also seems that they don’t consider the fact that human trafficking reporting may indeed be better in countries where prostitution is legal.

3volver,

I don’t agree with merging the House and Senate

I’ve read this several times and I understand it. What I’ve also read several times is “this will never happen” which I understand as well.

The funniest thing is that with congress the way it currently is, none of this has the slightest chance of actually happening. Thus I keep “Merge the senate into the house” because it’s the only way any of this would change. Previously I had “Abolish the senate” which I thought would be unfair to all the current senators. 2 senators per state and the filibuster are why nothing is changing.

3volver,

The questions I have are about the increase in human trafficking. Could it be because of an increase in reporting? How many cases of human trafficking go unreported? Is it more so in countries where prostitution is criminalized?

It’s possible that a country with decriminalized prostitution may have a better reporting system for human trafficking with victims more willing to come forward without worry of repercussions. Either way, I’m leaning towards decriminalization rather than legalization for prostitution for v4.

3volver,

That is what is referred to as a false dilemma fallacy. You can have states and state legislatures without the senate.

3volver,

No, I stand firm, abolish the filibuster. Enforce strict talking time limits. It is wasting American tax payer time and money with bullshit nonsense, and gives individual representatives too much power.

3volver,

That is covered by “Abolish corporate home ownership”.

3volver,

That’s interesting, how would that work? If a political appointment was recalled, there would need to be another vote right? I think it gets pretty muddy, what’s to stop bad actors from immediately voting to recall the politician they didn’t want to win?

3volver,

Nope, that would be definitely seen as religious persecution. Only way is to equally end all religious tax exemptions simultaneously.

3volver,

think of yoga or mindfulness studios, plenty of which are 501c3

They shouldn’t be tax exempt either. If they generate profit, they should pay tax on it. Subsidies are used to benefit specific activities, and they are easier to investigate for fraud as to whether the subsidy is spent as intended.

3volver, (edited )

imply deceptive intent

Nope, it’s simply an instance of an argument which erroneously limits what options are available.

3volver,

I think we agree to an extent, but I now believe that we should end tax exempt status completely. Remove (Title 26, Subtitle A, Chapter 1, Subchapter F - Exempt Organizations) from the U.S. Code entirely. There are too many convoluted exceptions, and it generally doesn’t benefit citizens to pick and choose who pays tax and who doesn’t depending on what they do.

3volver,

Because states would still get a voice at the Federal level with the House, not directly and disproportionately, but rather through their population who are the ones who create value.

3volver,

non profits do a lot of good

I don’t think it’s that simple. I think we should get rid of the status entirely. There are plenty of nonprofits that don’t do good.

3volver,

The senate exists to maintain an artificial balance and make sure that only the approved things are actually voted on. That is why popular things like marijuana legalization are never voted on.

3volver,

Californians are the only people in America that have more representation than someone in any other state.

This is false. They are extremely under represented in the Senate, and the House scales with population.
