@DJDarren What was the synth music you had as background? I kept recognising bits but thinking "nah, can't be".

With great deliberation, I’ve decided that next Monday’s edition of shall have the theme of…

Animals

Animals are great, and there’s loads of them that people have written songs about. So fling your suggestions my way and let’s see if we can’t put together the best animals-related radio show the world has ever seen.

Monday / 8-10pm BST / https://labr.online / @labr

@DJDarren Sheep - Pink Floyd (10 mins, but a definite banger)
Of Wolf And Man - Metallica
Shock The Monkey - Peter Gabriel
The Smartest Monkeys - XTC
Ladybird - XTC
Swimming Horses - Siouxsie & The Banshees
Beaver Patrol - PWEI

I have a sneaking suspicion that that last one may not actually be about an animal...

With much deliberation, I have decided that the theme for tomorrow's edition of is...

Summer

The days are longer, the sun is shining, the flowers have bloomed, the bees are buzzin', so fire your summer related picks at me.

Ade_on_drums,
@Ade_on_drums@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren I'd nominate XTC - Summer's Cauldron, but I don't know if a solo edit of it exists; wasn't a single and on the album it segues straight into Grass (which was).

Also The Divine Comedy - The Pop Singer's Fear Of The Pollen Count.

And for vibe alone, Bow Wow Wow's version of I Want Candy.

@DJDarren Wasn't watching last night, so I had to youtube it now to make sure you weren't kidding. Legs & Co. dancing to Rush?!

Sadly it was the single edit so they avoided all the time changes. But yep, solid banger. And so is Tom Sawyer, their other big hit from around that time.

Work informed me on Monday that my account had appeared on a list of credentials available to hackers and I should change my password immediately. The new one was thus thought up in a hurry and is not tripping off the fingers yet.

Automatically trying to login with a password you have recently replaced is the new crossing out the wrong year on cheques all through January.

My old pullovers were getting a bit ratty (and, gratifyingly, loose😊), so last month, with winter coming, I splurged on some new ones.

This fleecy thing felt like overkill at the time. But boy, have I been glad of it this week. Walked home from work and I was toasty

Ade_on_drums,
@Ade_on_drums@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren I thought so. 😊 I did worry it was a bit OTT and I wouldn't get that much use out of it, but right now... totally worth it.

Still kinda obsessing over The KLF, and am absolutely delighted to have just discovered that they released a reprise of Justified & Ancient with Jarvis Cocker taking Tammy Wynette’s place. Sort of. It’s wonderful.

@DJDarren "KLF: Chaos Magic Music Money"?

@DJDarren Read that a few years ago. A book of many unexpected twists and turns; definitely not your standard pop musician biography.

Got the christmas ‘91 episode of playing while I’m working. Do The Bartman just came on, which whipped me straight back to being 11 and thinking it was the best song ever recorded.

Nostalgia is a hell of a thing.

@DJDarren Muse's Matt Bellamy is the son of George Bellamy from the Tornadoes.

Today's has straight up pissed me off. Not because it's a fucky one or anything, but because it really shouldn't have taken me 200 guesses...

I solved Redactle in 200 guesses with an accuracy of 53.5% and a time of 00:23:28. https://test.redactle.net/

Ade_on_drums,
@Ade_on_drums@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren Just tried it myself; first time I've ever played Redactle and got it in 154.

Then tried a random game and got Anne Frank in 4.

Didn't need a new distraction, but it looks like I've got one.

Currently obsessed with the 12" mix of Kirsty MacColl's version of A New England.

The production is clean as fuck, the guitars glisten beautifully, and the bass lopes along in the bounciest way you'd want it to. Absolutely wonderful.

And Kirsty's vocal... 😍

@DJDarren I'll look up my copy of Galore this evening and see if there are any musician credits.

I really want to know who wrote the final verse, which wasn't in Bragg's original. Some sites say Bragg, some says half him and half MacColl, but not which half. Which is really annoying because that last verse, "when at last it didn't ring I knew it wasn't you", has to be one of the best lyrics of all time.

Ade_on_drums,
@Ade_on_drums@mendeddrum.org avatar

@DJDarren Galore proved to be sadly lacking in musician credits.

@DJDarren Kind of wonder how Rush's 'Grace Under Pressure' would've sounded if he hadn't blown them out at the last minute to do 'Sparkle In The Rain' for Simple Minds instead.
