Uruk/Warka, situated in modern-day Iraq, is one of the first cities in the world. During the Seleucid period (3–2 century BCE), Uruk was an important religious centre.

We scientifically reconstructed the Bit Resch, Irigal, Bit Akitu as well as the Eanna and Anu Ziggurat of the Seleucid Period.

For the reconstruction process, we considered variations whenever the archaeological evidence was inconclusive. This resulted in the creation of two different models.

I made a trip to Basel to scan various objects with two of my RTI domes. The trip was short, but intense and in this post I report on what I did, what I learned, and what I am thankful for.

ICYMI: Analysing video games sometimes leads to harsh critique. I asked myself why that is and why nobody needs to be concerned. Gender, Sexism and Racism are problems of many current video games and talking about it is important.

The palace at Til Barsib (Syria) was richly decorated with wall paintings in the Assyrian fashion; in total, thirteen of the palace’s rooms were colourfully painted around 744-631 BCE.

Our visualisation combines the black and white copies and the coloured photographs, and places them into their architectural context. For the first time, it is now possible to understand the scenes according to their original arrangement and placement on the palace walls.

Mari, located in the Middle Euphrates region in Syria is one of the most famous sites in the Near East. It dates from the 3rd to the beginning of the 2nd millennium BCE.

A new research team has continued the excavations at Mari. One of the project’s new objectives is a detailed investigation of the city’s fortification walls.

We developed a scientifically well-founded reconstruction of the fortification walls, the city gate, and an adjoining residential building.

ICYMI: Having a unique ID number can have many advantages, especially as a researcher. My name is pretty unique, but for others, an ID can distinguish between Harry Miller 1 and 2. In this short article, I write about and its many benefits:

For the Tell Fecheriye exhibition, we provided the concept development and design for the exhibition architecture, and for the accompanying print media. Our aim was to present the results of the ongoing archaeological excavation to the general public.

We decided to not only present scientific information, but an entire archaeological experience too. For the children we created a colourful illustration showing the many different tasks performed during an excavation.

Uruk/Warka, situated in modern-day Iraq, is one of the first cities in the world. Excavations uncovered a large variety of monumental buildings.

The aim of this project was to develop well-founded scientific reconstructions based on three-dimensional models.

In a sub-project on the “late Uruk period”, we concentrated on the main buildings: Buildings C and B, the “Pillared Hall” and the “Hallenbau”, the “Great Courtyard”, and some smaller intermediate structures.

In 2000-2001, an ancient Egyptian well was excavated by the Qantir-Piramesse project. It dates back to the reign of II (1279-1213 BCE).

The well is one of the earliest in to be entirely constructed from stone. Excavations revealed several outstanding features, such as two layers of pottery at the bottom of the well to filter the water.

The visualisations have been used to illustrate the construction of the well, its features and the stratigraphy.
