Autumn

@Autumn@penfount.social

Musician, introvert and solitary eclectic (she/her) with a fondness for fountain pens, guitars, books, cocktails, the woods, the sea and quiet. Sharing life in the Scottish Borders with my wife and two scruffy little dogs. I’m a proud Lowland Scot. It’s okay not to be from the Highlands 😉

Finishing off the setlist for tonight’s party. Wee ceilidh to begin with then some gentler folk ( and support vocals from yours truly) followed by proper dance tunes a la Pacha 1988! Those were the days :D I’ve just added Voodoo Ray by A Called Gerald. TUNE! My Estie Raven was called upon too. I’ll be calling the dances at the ceilidh and had to write it all down :)

I’m on a no buy. Bugger! 🙄

This has absolutely nothing to do with , or nice paper. Samhuinn’s a week away and Scotland has forgotten how to celebrate it. We practically invented Halloween. No more neep lanterns, guisin’, dookin for apples, nut burning or treacle scones. It’s all pumpkins, fancy dress and trick or treating :(

Burn’s Day on Thursday. For some years we’ve held a Jean Armour Supper. The incredible woman Robert Burns eventually made his wife. She bore him eight children five of whom died. She also raised a child born to one of his many mistresses. She deserves to be remembered. It’s my turn to write the ‘Reply from the Lassies” . I’ve chosen the Sailor 1911 and Diamine Burgundy Rose for the job. Wish me luck!

@penfount The Esterbrook Estie Raven arrived today. It’s a beautiful matt black; fairly large but light and perfectly balanced. It has just a little bit of feedback which I like very much. Is it too expensive? Possibly. I thought I’d ordered the converter/cartridge version, but I’ve been sent the button piston one. I like it. Alas, Samhuinn will be quieter than usual but I’m sure I can stretch to an apple crumble :)

I’ve realised that I can likely never post my on r/fountainpens ever again. Has anyone else noticed the abundance of immaculate (and expensive) manicures on there recently? Perhaps they’re all aspiring hand models. Comparatively, I have hands like a navvy!

I must not buy , , or in 2024. We need new flooring for the house… SO BORING!!!

I really don’t want to go into the office today. The postie is bringing my new Sakae TP Iroful notebook. I should be at home conducting very important ink tests.

So my no buy because of new floors is now because of new hoose! From the city, to the coast, to a wooded dell in the middle of nowhere in less than five years. As I’ve aged, my ability to tolerate others has diminished to the point of non-existence! That’s why our new neighbours are mostly deer, foxes and badgers ☺️

Should I ever come into money I’m opening a shop in Edinburgh. It will also sell cocktails, guitar pedals and tarot cards. A bit niche but hey it’s my shop ;)

As requested, here’s my again. I’m a musician (guitar and other things with strings) with a frightfully dull day job. I used in my work and as a consequence stopped loving them. I fell in love again a few years ago and now write (and draw) with them for pleasure. I can spend hours in secondhand book and record shops and in general prefer an analogue life to a digital one. However, I’m not a zealot about it.

Being a bunch of “heathens”, we don’t celebrate Christmas in our house having already celebrated Yule. However, I know that many of you lovely people do, so have a Merry Merry. With love. Sarah

I’ve finally had a chance to try my new Iroful notebook and I’m super delighted. It’s amazingly good. I decided to use one of Diamine’s more temperamental sheening inks. It dried surprisingly quickly. No feathering, no ghosting. Shading is excellent. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it. I’ll be buying lots of these 😁

Apologies for the poor handwriting. It was a bit rushed.

I don’t believe there’s a more recalcitrant shimmer than Jacques Herbin’s Emeraude de Chivor. It’s a colossal pain in the arse! of the broadest and wettest variety; speedball, glass and kakimori dip pens all laid to waste by this sparkly fiend! But that’s all in the past. I’m delighted to announce that it has, at last, met its match. Step forward Sailor’s fifteen quid Hocoro. You are now officially a legend amongst writing implements. At least in my pen box ;)

I seldom get in a tizzy over new pens, but my goodness. Bloody no buy year! And it’s 300 quid. Mayor Ultra Ogives Ti22 Fountain Pen Teti Limited Edition.

@penfount Good morning from the cold, wet and thoroughly bl**dy miserable Scottish Borders. Question re Platinum Classic iron gall . Okay in my Opus 88 Koloro or not so much?

An unusual day at work (WFH) today. I need to write a report so have the pleasure of putting pen to paper before switching on the computer. The lovely Nahvalur Nautilus Cephalopod has been called into service, albeit inked with the entirely too grown up Diamine Blue Black. Soundtrack is the aptly named Blue Lines album by Massive Attack.

of the day:
Have you ever tried mixing ink? Have you tried adding shimmer to inks? Do you have any mixes that you recreate often?

Autumn,
@Autumn@penfount.social avatar

@penfount Remember when you were a kid, you would mix all your paints together and get a lovely shade of silage? I can still do it. With . And there’s very little variation in shade, no matter the colours you mix. Consistency is key! Add shimmer and you’ve magically recreated in ink form that good old Scots saying of “rolling a jobby in glitter”. One for Diamine’s 2024 Inkvent calendar I think! ;D

Your existing pens and inks have been stolen, but you get 500 USD of insurance money, and can use that to start a new fountain pen collection. Which pens and inks would you buy with the 500 USD?

Autumn,
@Autumn@penfount.social avatar

@penfount So about £400… Dylan Stephen has a beautiful limited edition Onoto Magna 261 for £350. Ink wise I’ll stay in the UK with all of Diamine’s Deep Dark Cult Pens exclusives.

of the day:
What are your thoughts on the recent trend of legacy pen brands being acquired by new owners? (e.g. Pelikan by Hamelin, Lamy by Mitsubishi Pencil, Sheaffer by William Penn) What do you think this means for the industry?

Autumn,
@Autumn@penfount.social avatar

@penfount I can’t see that it will benefit us at all. By way of an example, which of us here would buy a modern Mont Blanc?
