There, the lighthouse is fully assembled. It's very, very pretty, and a delight to assemble.

Few things are as satisfying as understanding why a bug happens, and seeing all the "...this make no sense whatsoever..."s suddenly click together in one cohesive tableau.

Asylstrasse is now on : https://alphabeticalzurich.wordpress.com/2024/03/25/asylstrasse/

It was a long one to write alt-texts and descriptions for, between "finding reasonable terms for architecture details" (not sure I got all of them right) and "translating the historical building blue plate".

let's imagine you're resolving this merge conflict (in screenshot).

You've forgotten which code comes from your current branch and which one comes from the "other" branch. How do you figure it out? Do you:

  1. remember what the "top" and "bottom" parts correspond to from past merge conflicts?
  2. remember what HEAD means?
  3. read the last line of the merge conflict?
  4. run something like git show main or git diff mybranch..main to see the diff?
  5. enable diff3
  6. something else?

Sigh heavily and figure out manually what should actually be there

Had emergency surgery earlier this week, so now I have gut wounds that are healing and 90% of all movement is broken because everything needs core muscles to do anything.

It doesn't help that I'm re-reading Singularity Sky to pass the time, and man that whole upload culture thing sounds real nice. Headlaunch now! Headlaunch now!

Deciding that weeks are a prime number of days was a stupid decision. We could have gone for 6, divisible by 3 and 2, we could have gone for 8, power of 2, but no, fucking prime number. I'm not impressed.

I just played a few games of Ark Nova in solo on BoardGameArena. I haven't managed to win yet, but I think I'm getting used to how the actions work and I can start to see how it makes some kind of sense. No idea how it translates in a multiplayer game, but at least I shouldn't feel utterly lost (I have plans for the tabletop version Soon™ :) )

Yay for BGA, yay for solo modes.

    New server means new post.

    Hi!

I'm a software engineer by trade (mostly, I write PHP to parse wikitext); I like books (scifi and romance are my main genres these days), board games, photography, math (although I'm steadily losing practice and skill!) and videogames (World of Warcraft and Slay the Spire are my usual fares).

I'm sporadically writing on https://blogen.pasithee.fr; and I more than sporadically feed https://alphabeticalzurich.wordpress.com/ with pictures of Zürich.
