@OutofPrintArchive Somewhere I have that Asterix game for the Gameboy Advance, where the game is 3D and looks like it could've been a PlayStation title.

Can't remember what it's called or where I put it, but I love this series.

@OutofPrintArchive The Mega Drive is king for shmups, I have so many, many of which have little differences between them, but I still have so much fun with all of them decades later.

I yearn for the day modern games capture that same kind of magic.

Here's something I don't usually do...
But the past couple of days have not been well...great... let's just put it that way.

So when I saw this scumbag's mug appear again in my feed, despite the dozens of clicks of "do not recommend this garbage channel", it pissed me off even more.

Always looking to shit on anything and everything that's not PlayStation, trying to make money off people losing their jobs, and this dumb fuck doesn't even know Arkane's name...

I hope he chokes on a toenail.

@OutofPrintArchive I had him appear before on mine several times, apparently no one in the Dreamcast community accepts him.

I can't stand the guy personally.

@brood @hazelnot HDDs are mostly fine anyway.
A lot of media, movies, pictures, music, games pre-2019 etc. are fine on slower storage.
I have several 1TB drives I use solely to archive my games collections and they've never let me down aside from a preowned drive I took a gamble on because of its extra capacity.

It’s rare to hear straight from Sega of Japan like this, so tons of stories have twisted the narrative over the years in all kinds of ways.

But this is spot on from everything I’ve heard.

@OutofPrintArchive I've always thought the 32X was a mixed bag.
It's a cool concept don't get me wrong, but when the CD's "flaw" was it being limited by the MegaDrive, the 32X quickly sounds more like a lost cause from the get go. They never could've expected the MegaDrive to keep up with the PlayStation, Saturn or Nintendo 64.

They should've just made MegaDrive and CD "all in ones" instead, supported the CD with heavy hitters like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, then made Saturn backwards compatible.

Two absolute heart picks for me arrived.
Sadly, I found out that Psychonauts 2 only runs at 30fps, even on PS4 Pro.
So I'm thinking of holding off to replay this one till I finally get a PS5 where it runs at 60.

How silly it might sound to most, Returnal is the one first party game that I actually want a PS5 for. Wasn't able to find a copy for less than €70, until this one popped up for 48, so I jumped at it.

@OutofPrintArchive I got this on Steam the other day, only £38 right now so I nabbed it.
It's pretty good honestly.
This and the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection. When you see PlayStation Studios on a game, you know you're in for a good time.

@OutofPrintArchive Aye. Last time I played Uncharted before this was back on the PS Vita.

It kinda got stale back then, but replaying it after all this time is a blast.

For the people who know me it comes as no surprise that I adore Sega arcade games. So their racing games rank at the very top of my favourite racing games of all time.

But for close to two decades now, there was one that I never got my hands on and always wanted.
But it was not the easiest one to get a hold of here, and a bit pricey.
But I finally pulled the trigger.

Any guesses what it might be? :catjam:

Spent the last couple of hours updating my PS3 that had been boxed up for about 10 years or so, and recovering my forgotten US account.
Why, you ask?

Well, to finally do something which I had been planning for over a decade but never actually did.

To buy the two SMT Devil Summoner Raidou games, the second which never came out in Europe. 👹
Grabbed Grandia 3 as well as Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. 🥰

Bit of a mess to get funds to the console nowadays, but it's done.

Bigblue1106,

@OutofPrintArchive I bought Outrun 2 for Xbox at CeX the day it was delisted from digital stores.
Ripped my disc to my PC so I can emulate it in future, but I never managed to get Daytona USA before it was delisted, or affordable on disc, only got the Xbox Live demo version.

@OutofPrintArchive I always had the PC CD version, I still have it somewhere, but recently found the PlayStation version super cheap.
Just £5 on eBay for the game and case in immaculate condition, only thing missing is the manual, but those are easy to come by so I got a real steal on this one.

I love how blocky the PlayStation version is, it really has such a strong retro feel to it.

Crazy day yesterday for game announcements, but my favourite has to be Gundam Breaker 4.
So glad the series isn't dead after New Gundam Breaker by that other team, which seemed to have killed any hope of a sequel, let alone a true sequel by the actual Gundam Breaker team.

And another game that's skipping Xbox. Looks like that's going to become the trend again.
One gets Gundam Breaker, the other an AR15 Pokémon ripoff.
I know which camp I'm picking! 👀

@OutofPrintArchive They both come to PC, best to play them imo, especially Pal World given how uncertain everything about Xbox is lately.
I love the games that come to PlayStation, but I prefer the Xbox controller layout, so it's best of both for me.

Mostly stoked for Horizon Forbidden West coming to Steam in March, but my backlog still needs finishing before I get it.

This might be a dumb question, but I was told that all PS4 games need to be installed to the hard drive before you can play them.
I’m going through a bunch of games right now and that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Well, not the full disc at least. There seem to be some that just install a key of sorts to the drive. Something that’s not even a Megabyte big.

Can anyone explain this to me?
I forgot how it worked after so many years… 😳

Bigblue1106,
@Bigblue1106@mas.to avatar

@OutofPrintArchive I imagine it's something akin to what old Xbox games could do where they use the HDD/SSD for caching to reduce load times.

Given how "storage fast" seems to be one of the few selling points of the PS5, I imagine that has something to do with it at least.
Though installing discs was also a big thing on Xbox One too, I remember hearing load times mentioned a lot in that regard.
They do it this gen too, both Xbox and PlayStation, presumably to take full advantage of the SSDs.

Bigblue1106,
@Bigblue1106@mas.to avatar

@OutofPrintArchive It makes sense given how much faster an SSD is over a Blu-ray drive, though it can be annoying having to wait beforehand.
I personally prefer loading screens since you can grab a drink and stuff in between games.

Only a good two hours at work. Tired as hell. Thinking I should go to bed much earlier tonight.

Yet here I am thinking I want to play WipEout Omega Collection tonight.
It’s been way too long…

That’s the good thing about ignoring everything PlayStation for 7 years.
Everything is new again. 😅
And I keep seeing tons of games I hadn’t heard about before. 👀

Bigblue1106,
@Bigblue1106@mas.to avatar

@OutofPrintArchive I got the first 2 on Saturn, the rest on PlayStation and PC.

I don't enjoy how they handle, but I love the visuals on them, especially the Saturn version.

I found a mod for tighter handling on the first game, and it makes it better imo, but I always find myself wanting to go back to them for some reason.

Bigblue1106,
@Bigblue1106@mas.to avatar

@OutofPrintArchive of course the first game is also less optimised on Saturn, but I feel like the controls feel less stiff on it too, so 30fps and tigher controls over 60 fps and stiff steering on PlayStation feels like a worthy trade off.

I wish they'd had more time to squeeze the Saturns power out and optimise it for 60 too though, the speed difference is noticeable for some reason, like maybe they tied physics to frame rate or something.

Been in a Nintendo 64 mood for well over a week now, so tonight after coming home from the late shift, I felt like playing some GoldenEye 007.
It's been way too long.

The game definitely is showing its age nowadays, but after getting used to it again, it's still such a blast.
Sniping ruskies in the snow never gets old. 😁

Need to get to bed though as I'm exhausted again.

Will have to look up a nice GoldenEye feature tomorrow.
And now I want to play some Blast Corps tomorrow night...

@OutofPrintArchive I imported Ikaruga for Dreamcast from Japan because I thought it was Japan exclusive.
Then I learned we got it local for the GameCube and felt like a dunce. At least my Dreamcast collection has an extra addition though I suppose, but I did double dip and buy the GameCube version later on.
