OK, stupid question. When a TeamTalk server sign up form asks me my preferred ports, does that mean I pick some random number and put in there?

BlindHedgehog,

@evilcookies98 Most people just 10,333 for both ports,
as those are the standard TeamTalk ports.

BlindHedgehog,

@evilcookies98 Won't be able to help you there then.
Sorry about that.

Does the reinstall once a year rule still apply to Windows? I really hope not because I'm coming up on my year and I don't have any way to make a backup

BlindHedgehog,

@evilcookies98 I honestly don't think it should matter too much.
Especially if you've been keeping care of

BlindHedgehog,

@evilcookies98 Little things like the Windows Defender Offline Scan,
tidying up files and folders
and letting Windows optimize (trim) SSDs as necessary will generally keep things fairly speedy.
Definitely do keep the security intelligence definitions up to date.
I'd like to try to keep the year prospect away as much as possible.
(For me, that happens this coming Friday, October 4th of 2024.
Installing feature updates may even fix things that you never knew were even broken behind your back.
As per the monthly Windows updates, you don't really need the Preview releases on the last Tuesday/week of the month.
Instead just focus on the Patch Tuesday (second week of the month) updates (if any are available for you).

I've gotten to the point where only a small number of people call me, all of them have custom ringtones, and if the default ringtone plays, it's spam at least 90% of the time. I can't decide if this is a good thing or not.

BlindHedgehog,

@simon
I'd do the same on my Android, too.
Just tells me if I hear my regular ringtone Not to answer it at all.
So I better find something boring as my default to intentionally miss the call, lol!

I wonder what percentage of blind Mastodon has a profile photo. I spent the first year forgetting I didn't have one.
I also wonder if people care as much as they did on Twitter. I got harassed into adding one by friends of my cousin, but it took me a couple of years.
I don't really mind having my photo available, and I could just use the one from Twitter, but that photo is 8 years old now. Apparently, that matters for some reason.

BlindHedgehog,

@simon I probably wouldn't sweat it.
But just in case someone does ask,
I could always ask my mom to take a picture of me and EMail it to me so I could upload it here if people wanted it bad enough.
But I'm honestly not too worried about it.

If anyone on here remembers last year when I made some skits with me and @TheQuinbox fighting each other constantly... I've made another one to practice getting started with reaper. Enjoy. This is what would happen if She and I were living together and decided to go on a shopping trip. And no, it does not go how you'd think. Lots of breaking stuff and strong language.

Please note that the actual dynamic between us is not this dramatic. This is extremely exaggerated and dramatized, as the other skits last year were. We do constantly give each other shit, but not to this extreme.

How to write good.

  1. Avoid alliteration. Always.
  2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
  3. Avoid clichés like the plague. (They're old hat.)
  4. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
  5. One should never generalize.
  6. Comparisons are as bad as clichés.
  7. Be more or less specific.
  8. Sentence fragments? Eliminate.
  9. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
  10. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.
  11. Who needs rhetorical questions?
BlindHedgehog,

@dgar

Weird dream of the day so far. Going to try to go back to sleep. I’m watching TV and this random breaking news headline that I think is Clickbait comes up. A product from 2016 can kill you. Turns out it’s my bop it. Just as I’m dismissing all of these bogus claims and crap, I hear my bop it start yelling at me from its place in my nightstand, and it’s not stuff bop it should be saying

I've seen this touched on a few times, but just going to remind you all that social media only lets you see the parts of people they allow to be seen. As an example, I have a lot of shit going on in my personal life that only my very close circle knows about. I may bitch on Mastodon about my mom yelling at me or whatever, but god, there's so much more that's not talked about other than with those who I trust extremely well. There's a reason I always sit in my room at a keyboard instead of going out and socializing. There's a reason I just mindlessly code away instead of trying to branch out. All my snark and sarcasm, although I tend to try and make it humorous for consumption, comes from a place much deeper than me just wanting to be funny and express displeasure at something. just remember, hardly anything is surface-level.

BlindHedgehog,

@TheQuinbox Well spoken.
Gotta concur with that.

BlindHedgehog,

If you don't mind my asking, what's DNS Centralization in the case of Mastodon?

BlindHedgehog,

@miki Roger that.
Thanks for the honest description;
It's people like you helping Mastodon be better.
I can't necessarily speak for others, but if they don't like the way Mastodon works,
stay in the giant echo chambers where their individual thought(s) never gets heard.
