BlueMagma,

I think you might have misread the message of this comic. It’s not saying mass extinction is ok, or that we shouldn’t try to preserve the environment. It’s saying nature doesn’t need us, and we are killing ourselves. Nature and life will go on long after climate change kill us all. It’s saying humans are so egocentric they use the words “destroying the planet” when they only destroy themselves.

Also as far as I know we can’t live in space for very long currently.

BlueMagma,

I don’t think he does, too busy meeting up with a real girl

BlueMagma,

My understanding is the following: In companies, it is assumed that employees will try to reach for the promotion, getting a higher position for a higher pay. Managers have been trained to use that to push people to do more than what is strictly required of them, letting people think that’s how they’ll progress their career. Quiet quitter are people that simply stopped aiming for the promotion, they do what their job entail and that’s it, no more trying to get more, no extra, no internal politics. They don’tgive a fuck about all this, all they wantis the paycheck and to enjoy their life away from all this non-sense.

They pinned the term quiet quitter, because this is usually the behavior of an employee that is about to quit the company for another position elsewhere, except quiet quitter don’t plan on quitting.

BlueMagma,

Can you guys stop talking about your ex ? You’re with lemmy now, forget about the old bitch.

BlueMagma,

This is also a scam, some people who I assume know it’s fake, are enrolling and selling fake sovcit ID, and they probably send documentation about the whole thing.

BlueMagma,

Here is my opinion: Slide should have images, diagrams or charts to illustrate what I say, almost never any text. What I say is written in advance in the notes of the presentation that is only visible to me while presenting, but will be readable by anyone who look at the file afterwards. I prepare the duration and delivery of the speech at least three times in full before presenting.

BlueMagma,

Try being in their shoes: you set up an experiment to prove the earth is not flat and is indeed round, you run the experiment and at the end you realise your experiment fail and would prove the earth is flat. Would you changwe your point of view ? I know I wouldn’t, I would immediately assume I am an idiot and messed up the experiment, because I am so much convinced it is round, it would be much more realistic to assume I messed up.

BlueMagma,

For anyone like me outside the US wondering what the fuck is GoogleFi : It’s a Virtual mobile network provider, using wifi and other provider’s network.

Hope I saved you a search.

For me living in france, these prices seems outrageous. For the record I pay 13€/months and got pretty much unlimited everything (130 GiB data is more than I’ll ever use in a single months on my phone)

BlueMagma,

I feel there is a good joke here, but I miss the knowledge to understand it. Care to enlighten me?

BlueMagma,

Have you tried to have your parents buy you a house when you were 18 ? Many people forget to do this simple step. /s

BlueMagma,

In my country, the week starts on monday

BlueMagma,

The joke is you take the knife and kill another player

BlueMagma,

Can someone explain to a non-usa person what is sovereign citizen ?

BlueMagma,

I don’t understand, the article says of the 7 million after break-even they only got 567, who got the rest of the money ? Where did it go ?

And even then, hundreds of people recieved a salary for a few years, is it not pretty good already ? To be able to sustain all these people ?

BlueMagma,

I’m currently living through my most stessful week of my life: About a year and a half ago, I bought a plot of land with the project of building a home there, inflation and loan rate kicked in, so I thought “alright let’s wait a bit see when it stabilizes”, this week I learned my plot is planned to be removed from the “buildable” area. If I don’t put a building permit to the city council before this is voted my land will basically see it’s value divided by 20 and I won’t be able to build a house there, I put 6 years of savings into this project… all because my gov decided that they didn’t want this area to be urbanised anymore.

I have trouble sleeping and working I can’t think of anything else, I also lost my appetite.

BlueMagma, (edited )

That’s great, but to be fair some of them are “technically playable” but a real pain in the ass to play on the steam deck. The definition of “playable” is really not what you’d expect.

EDIT: I don’t understand why I’m getting downvoted so much… I own a steam deck and love it, and my comment is on topic… I’m literally the only top comment on the thread, are you guys trying to incentivize people not to engage on lemmy’s post ?

BlueMagma,

Drug users are everyone, alcohol, tobacco, coffee, some are legal, some are still detectable months after use, would you care that your cab driver got drunk last months ? I wouldn’t care.

BlueMagma,

WTF, we are making videos from text posts now ? It feels so weird… Instead of reading a post in 10s, I get to wait 35s for the video to unfold the text discussion, and youtube gets to puts ads on top of it, what a time to be alive…

BlueMagma,

Not planning to sell its liver, so don’t really care about its value, but I’m sure it’s holding up to the market

BlueMagma,

You are totally right, industry is the big polluter, but I think it’s important to also realize: what we consume drives industry to produce polluting goods, the only reason they pollute is to produce stuff to sell us, if we want them to stop polluting, “part” of the solution is to stop buying their stuff.

BlueMagma,

Although I agree with what everyone is saying “that it make sense to compensate workers for the commute in time and money”, I’d like to nuance a little, because I think it is a bit more complicated from a moral standpoint: Imagine employer were paying for your commute and you were on the clock during it, what happen when you move to another appartment/house further from work ? Should the employer continue to pay and clock your longer commute ? It seems weird that my decision to move to another part of the city would affect my employer. The consequence would be that employer will mandate that you cannot move without their appoval or that their cost for your commute is fixed in the contract and need to be renegociable. In the end what it boils down to is not that commute should be paid for and part of the work day. What people want is better salaries and smaller hours. Then the commute doesn’t matter anymore, and stays at the expense of the worker who can therefore move wherever they want.

BlueMagma,

I’ve seen this coutless times, and as a french native I’m getting tired of this, I want to tell you that no french think of it that way.

You know how you have “eleven” “twelve” and then you switch to “xxteen” for the next 6 number ? You never dissociate them, because that’s just the way it is. French are the same “douze”, “treize”… and then suddenly “dix-sept” but nobody dissociate them, this is just one word that means “17”

And then it’s the same with “seventy”, french don’t dissociate 60 and 10 in their mind, it’s just one word. Sure from an ethymologic standpoint it comes from two word but it’s not how we think about it.

When you say “sunday” you never think “day of the sun”, when you say “blueberry”, “blackberry” you don’t think of the color, you think of the particular fruit, everybody can see the origin of the word, but nonetheless the word is one unit.

Anyway. Yes it is weird to learn a new language and see how it evolved into a weird mess, but please know that when you make this kind of comment you don’t look like you are well informed about the french language, you just look like kids that have learned a new word and can’t stop using it everywhere.

BlueMagma,

I have no idea what this does, I will not try it to find out
