  • BrikoX,

Same it true the other way. Federation only only works with text and images are pulled from the original instances and there seems to be an issue with that.

I think @lemmy @lemmyworld might not get the support Mastodon got because Twitter is more seriously used by some people and needed an urgent alternative whereas Reddit is still primarily used for entertainment

    BrikoX,

It doesn’t need to replace Reddit. All it needs is a small active userbase which it got from the migration and just slowly grow into something new.

I've heard a few people say that they don't use reddit apps anymore and only access reddit via old.reddit. Could someone explain to me how that resolves the "morality issue"? Isn't that still traffic and aren't they still getting money? Is it less money somehow?

    BrikoX,

Isn’t that still traffic and aren’t they still getting money?

    Yes

    Is it less money somehow?

    No.

Is there a way to sign into multiple Fediverse instances using the same account? Or is it possible to merge account across instances?

    BrikoX,

Not possible, but maybe in the future? The standard (ActivityPub) they use is the same, but each software has to create it’s own features.

    somegeek, to RedditMigration

Does it matter which lemmy server I join?

and if yes, what are some trusted and good servers?

    BrikoX,

To some extent as instances have different rules and based on those rules some instances might want to defederate from them to not see any content or certain user group.

You can check out some recommended instances here join-lemmy.org/instances or github.com/maltfield/awesome-lemmy-instances (but take a minute to open the links and read the rules in the sidebar to see it they fit your needs).

In that situation, I believe a contractor could put a lien on the property until they receive their agreed upon compensation.

I've been wondering about my work on Reddit. I've spent countless hours on graphics and CSS, and configuring automod. I have quite a few tiny subs and got a notice to "open up or else" on one of them.

From what I'm hearing, the admins can restore posts, but can they restore all the graphics and coding? And wouldn't that belong to the creator? Would a lien or some kind of copyright exist for all of that?

    BrikoX,

Actually you do own it, but you give them a right to distribute and use.

    VaporRonin, to thunder_app

@thunder_app What is this app for?

    BrikoX,

    @VaporRonin It’s a mobile client for Lemmy.

    BrikoX,

Lemmy is a federated platform for news aggregagtion/discussion. Using Activity Pub protocol and is part of fediverse, hence you being able to interact with it from Mastodon (I’m on Lemmy). It’s an alternative to Reddit/HackerNews type sites.

I have a Mastadon, AND a Kbin now. I'm trying to sign up for different Federated services and link 'em all together. I'm loving this new protocol so much. It's quiet...

It feels similar to the early 2000's internet and I'm loving it.

    BrikoX,

Check out other software in the Fediverse https://fedidb.org/software

Well I finally deleted my reddit account, and all of my subreddits, so I guess an introduction is in order!

Hi everybody! I'm an artist, and occasionally a writer. I wrote for a progressive publication for about 6 years, and learned a lot in the process, but haven't written much since. Here's an article I wrote in 2017 about decentralized social media. Please be kind, I had only been writing for a little over a year at that point! But let's focus on THIS point in time right now, the one where we are actually seeing what I wrote about come to pass. It is wonderful to see!

I went back to painting full-time 2-3 years ago, and never looked back, although I did pen an article about AI art during that time, and a blog post about the painting style I developed in 1993.

Here is an example of one of my paintings, it's called "The Lovers". I am loving being here!
[EDIT] Kbin is not letting me link an image, but the one I was going to link is the stickied post on my mastodon profile.

    Here's my mastodon ID: @lorenhall
Here I am on Lemmy: https://mander.xyz/u/Loren

    Thank you!

    BrikoX,

    Hi Loren and welcome. 👋

    doleo, to RedditMigration

I'd like to offer an alternative to the subreddit dedicated to my favourite football (soccer) team. I'm pretty sure none of the reddit mods are interested in doing this, and I've deleted my account there, so I'm not going to try to persuade them.

Where would you recommend starting the community if you were in my position? I don't mind doing the leg-work in the beginning, but I'm a bit too new to all this to know where to start.

I have made a magazine on kbin, but that doesnt seem to show up on a search of lemmy, for example. Am I missing something? I'm hoping to just get a visible presence on the fediverse, so anyone interested in leaving the reddit community can see they're not alone.

    BrikoX,

Somone has to search for it on the instance they are for it to show in All communities tab. Once one user does that it will be visible for everyone on that instance. It's slow propogation basically, to not have smaller instances need to keep a record of every single community available.

I see a lot of subreddits that are posting porn so that reddit cant have advertisements and therefore hurts their profits, is this actually something that hurts Reddits bottom line? Also, why can't companies like Adam and Eve advertise on porn subs, I feel like that would work

    BrikoX,

Popular payment processors/credit card companies doesn't like porn. They would need to use some alternative one like porn sites use and I guess maintaining 2 systems is no fun. It also wouldn't look good for their upcoming IPO.

Reddit value is being able to target specific communites with tailored interests to get the best chance of clicks while spending the least amount of money. With those communites being NSFW it provides no value for the advertisers so they will have to pause or cancel their campaings.

Without having the numbers it's all just a speculation, but if their aggresive response is anything to go by it has to hurt.
