CosmoNova,

Setting aside what others have said here. I think the article does a lot of framing by suggesting the protests and criticism are entirely directed at Israel’s entry. From what I’ve seen, the whole event itself is in the midst of a crossfire of criticism for letting Israel participate as well as being heavily biased in favor of the Israeli contestant. The Q&A with the contestants yesterday seemed to be very politicized in general. But once Golan was asked something, the organizers felt the need to clarify that she does not have to answer anything she felt uncomfortable with. That rubbed the (now probably former) contestant of the Netherlands the wrong way, asking “Why not?”. Well, the Joost situation certainly doesn’t help the organizers either. Whether they had anything to do with it or not, it puts the spotlight on them even more.

CosmoNova,

While that’s all relatively nice, it’s also a bandage on a gash.

Even saying it’s “nice” is an overstatement. With how quickly savings and jobs are vanishing and how expensive and stressful it is to raise a child, the population is more opposed to the idea of having children than ever before. Affordable housing isn’t the problem. There simply aren’t enough resources available to raise a new generation. The government will have to come up with something new if they want to prevent an all out crash of their economy because there is no way in hell the few young people will be able to support the massive aging population in the coming 2 decades.

CosmoNova,

Oh seesh. I watched a recent coverage of him and Gabber literally yesterday. It felt so hopeful… and now this. Kinda feel robbed of my time now. Feels bizarre even though I don’t know him.

CosmoNova,

I would never trust someone who surrounds themselves with the people Altman surrounds himself with. I always got bad vibes from Musk because he was close to people like Peter Thiel and it’s the same with Altman.

CosmoNova,

That’s kind of like defending monarchy because “surely the future king can’t be worse than the current one”. They are the same breed. He is them. It’s a somewhat systematic problem with these super rich technocrats.

CosmoNova,

This exact method is how Microsoft became a giant in the first place. They’ve been doing it for longer than I live and they’ll likely outlive me doing it.

CosmoNova,

Who cares if people talk about it when it‘s doomed to either become an unlivable hellscape or more likely never see completion because it‘s utterly infeasible? They destroy a huge area, waste billions and worst of all throw many lives into a meat grinder just to get some clout by the dumbest idiots on the planet. In the end of the day more people will dislike and look down on them for this moronic project that many knew would never work.

CosmoNova,

Please don‘t call it an eco-region just because these eco wrecking saudis do.

CosmoNova,

Even more important my device shouldn‘t even be able to run without an internet connection to live stream my data to MS headquarters directly. Just some food of thought for future endeavors.

CosmoNova,

I saw people defending MS here, saying technically nobody lost their job because the staff was moved to other MS developers. So let me just tell you that jobs are next on the chopping block and they‘re just doing it independently of the studios they just killed.

CosmoNova,

Gosh I wish they‘d get rid of the desktop as well and let me do everything with prompts again like in the good old CMD days.

CosmoNova,

For them happiness equals unexploited potential. Only when workers are depressed and hate their job do execs know for certain there is not much more extract. In other words they‘d rather actively decrease productivity and revenue than let people be happy while not knowing for certain if they‘re fully exploited already. Because if they are, then why would they be so damn happy?

CosmoNova,

That‘s exactly what bombs are for. You‘d think the POTUS would be aware what effect weapons of mass destruction have on civilian lives. In Germany we‘re still digging them out 80 years later as WW2 death tolls rise.

CosmoNova,

Wouldn’t be the first time Youtube got trigger happy but there actually are real victims of violence in it so it makes sense according to Youtube’s own guidelines. It is a justified restriction. It really sucks how it prevents adults from seeing it, though. Fuck the algorithm.

CosmoNova,

You forgot to mention they sold 30% stake of the company to the world‘s largest game conglomerate Tencent. They‘re also working on a supposedly much larger game than BG3 now and plan to release it within the next 4 years which means they will have to at least double their staff. Honestly, judging a developer entirely by a recent success isn‘t a good practice even when it‘s as massive as BG3. Most people who talk about Larian have a very warped impression. Even when their games are great recently, the tides can change rapidly in this industry.

CosmoNova,

Going by MS‘s track record the last couple decades, it‘s all business as usual. It‘s expected from them to eventually close everything down they incorporate into their ecosystem. Sometimes after draining it or letting it rot away, and sometimes sooner than later.

CosmoNova,

Give it time. Time is ticking for the big Bs.

CosmoNova,

CosmoNova,

That makes much more sense now. I was also wondering why people didn‘t pick up on it earlier given the incredible popularity of this game. So of course people noticed it, but it just didn‘t make much sense. I can see why someone would shrug it off a messy bit of text that probably wasn‘t supposed to be there and will be removed or edited or something. Well edited it was… just not as expected I guess.

Russian state media is posting more on TikTok ahead of the U.S. presidential election, study says (apnews.com)

Russian state-affiliated accounts have boosted their use of TikTok and are getting more engagement on the short-form video platform ahead of the U.S. presidential election, according to a study published Thursday by the nonprofit Brookings Institution....

CosmoNova,

At the end of the day, Russia generally does exactly what you expected it to do all along.

CosmoNova,

I dare you to watch RRR and that‘s likely far from the most ridiculous indian action movie.

CosmoNova,

American software is terrible at handling multi lingual users, aka people outside the US. Web browsers and Google services suffer from similar problems, but the random quotes in the lock screen are certainly something new to me.

CosmoNova,

Those poor share holders. Why won‘t anyone think of the share holders?

CosmoNova,

NASA hasn‘t used a space shuttle in how many years? They just used assets to make a quick render of something that will never be. It‘s a poor PR stunt. Don‘t read too much into it.

CosmoNova,

To even suggest China was united let alone centralized for that long is so blatantly ignorant I‘m not even going to talk about the lack of micromanaging capabilities of ancient governments. Old China was overthrown and China‘s government today has no resemblance whatsoever to old dynasties so it doesn‘t even make sense to bring them up as an example for Chinese ingenuity. Besides, the speed and process of how inventions were made thousands of years ago compared to today are on entirely different planes of existence.

The argument is not that autocratic states cannot be innovative under any circumstances, but historically, self proclaimed communist states had have their fair share of troubles with it because of stagnant hierarchies. Communist China is a very good example of a bad environment for innovation for reasons mentioned above.

The only Chinese innovation I can think of is the introduction of gamified hyper fast consumerism via Temu, Shein and TikTok. That‘s the spearhead of their innovation.
