Here’s my latest post on talking about and their new store and asking questions about how the focus on regulating Big Tech will actually affect consumers

Myself and @beardedtechguy are looking for writers to write for our blog that we launched earlier this week.

If you are interested in doing some blogging about tech related stuff, please reach out to us as we'd love to talk to you and possibly bring you on-board!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask as I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Lemme see if I get this:

If I copy your shit as my own, that's plagiarism and it's bad.

But when I copy everyone's shit and run it through a mystery box that rearranges it until it barely makes sense, that's futuristic technology.

And if I take your shit and sell it, that's copyright violation and it's bad.

But when I make a place for people to post their shit and I just sell access to it so the mystery box people can have it, that's a viable business model.

Makes perfect sense.

@fraying What’s the difference between how an AI learns to draw/write and how a human learns to draw/write

(playing Devil’s advocate)

CountableNewt,
@CountableNewt@moth.social avatar

@paulschoe @fraying I think the difference between the statements you have added and the original post are important: in order to identify a solution, we first have to identify the right problem to be solved

As a musician I was always told the best way to learn is by listening to others and AI training is no different in that sense

Objective, scale, and usage are already factors in determining fair use, which means we have some sort of legal framework to use

CountableNewt,
@CountableNewt@moth.social avatar

@paulschoe @fraying It’s understandable, and it’s precise enough to not have much of an unintended consequence

Saying that “basing the output off a set of inputs is not fair use” essentially means that, if you’ve ever seen a drawing of something, you would no longer allowed to be able to draw that thing because you would be plagiarizing

CountableNewt,
@CountableNewt@moth.social avatar

@paulschoe @fraying what I’m getting at is we keep coming back to other things

OP wasn’t discussing scale and accessibility, OP was discussing taking a bunch of input and creating a new output, which is learning

Anatomy studies are just that: look at a bunch of people, then produce an output

Are you infringing on anything by going through that process?

And with the music thing: are Elvis impersonators infringing on copyright? They spend a lot of time studying Elvis

CountableNewt,
@CountableNewt@moth.social avatar

@paulschoe @fraying what I’m getting at is that the process by which an AI is trained is no different than the process a person would take

As I understood it, OP’s point was that this process (specifically the process), as done by an AI, is somehow copyright infringement

I agree with your points that intention, scale, accessibility, etc. are all important in determining fair use, but that’s not what I understood OP’s post to be saying, I interpreted it as stated above

CountableNewt,
@CountableNewt@moth.social avatar

@fraying @paulschoe that’s your prerogative, but I will leave you with this:

You can’t fix a problem without understanding what it is you’re fighting against

Ignorance is easily exploitable

An Ignorant Take on Vision Pro 🥽
I have been intrigued and puzzled by the Apple Vision Pro, so I thought it might be therapeutic to jot down my jostling thoughts about it all.

@BasicAppleGuy I’m incredibly interested in it as a tech guy and as a product guy, but I’m not really interested in it as a user

I will, however, be scheduling my demo as soon as possible
