She/Her

I am a tabletop game developer. I work mainly with rules lite narrative titles. My largest title to date is "Friendship, Effort, Victory," published by Far Horizons.

Currently, my major projects are:

  • Petmon, a rules light Digimon-inspired, narrative focused diceless game
  • Wild Hunt, an original variant on Fate Core that uses dice steps in place of Fate Dice that takes inspiration from works like RWBY.

My brothers and sisters in christ, to all the PbtA Devs, because we seem to be the only motherfuckers who do this, do not say "the playbooks are available online so we aren't putting them in the print book."

For the love of god, pay the extra 2 dollars a book to print them. Otherwise, in twenty years when every download link to them is gone forever because the internet is ephemeral, your game will be literally unplayable.

I swear to God, people forget how easily shit is lost on the internet. It boggles my brain when I was chatting with people and say they put loads of effort into a game but have no interest in a PDF for it and want to keep it a website.

Maybe it's because I was around when the internet started but your site will die one day, anything that can be saved to a harddrive or kept in print media will keep it alive when that day comes.

I saw an ad today for a adventure that is almost one thousand pages long! That seems kind of ridiculous.

I've run the official Avatar TRPG, Avatar Legends, a few times.

Overall, I think it's good. It's basic moves and playbook moves do a good job of reinforcing the themes of Avatar and I am glad they added a combat system since a lot of people were worried about that with PBTA.

My two complaints are:

@Covok any chance you could point me to a copy of Wild Hunt? I’m having trouble finding it in my searches.

@masukomi It's not for sale yet. I'm not even done writing it.

But, if you want to see the latest document (haven't worked on it in a while) it's here:

@masukomi I'd suggest giving Majestic Supheroic Roleplaying a shot then. It's just an SRD, but it's a stripped down version of Wild Hunt for superheroes that I made as kind of "oh crap, Magnificent Heroic Roleplaying, a retroclone, might have made people think Wild Hunt is a retroclone because it's based on Dicey Fate. Let me show an example of how it isn't."

Covok,
@Covok@dice.camp avatar

@masukomi Let me know what you think. Since it is going to be the engine for a major game, it will be useful to have feedback.

Also, I'm planning to do something weird with Wild Hunt. I plan to put the setting into the creative commons sometime after release. Got to work that out with the publisher so don't take it as a definite. But, it'd be awesome to put the setting into the public domain and let other people make commercial works with it.

@masukomi I am so silly. I copied it but I didn't paste the link to it.

@masukomi It's worth noting, Wild Hunt doesn't use Zoichi dice. Its specifically for MSR because its a superhero game and I used it as a stand in for the high power levels of the genre.

And go wild. I don't mind. Be super detailed. It literally can only help. If you don't want to do it here, I can send you a discord invite.

Looking over Marvel Multiverse, I'm kind of suprised. Everyone said the playtest was a dumpster fire, but this looks okay. I heard there were a lot improvements and I suppose it shows. It isn't replacing MHR or Masks or any of my other favorite superhero games, but this does look fine.

That said, the fact they NEVER plan to release a PDF and will only sell a roll20 module that will turn off THE SECOND the license expires and they're charhing 50 for it, more than the p.book costs is wild.

I snapped today. I had a super toxic work enviroment at my new job. I went there for a 50% raise, but it turned out awful. Racist with slurs being said in the office, paychecks were consistently late, managers calling workers "asshole" and "dickhead." It was bad.

So, my plan was originally bounce in a month to get a technical year out of it, but I gave up and just did my two weeks today.

Philosophical question: If you were doing a Kaiju game, what would your players be playing? The Kaiju or the Humans?

If you were going to run a Kaiju game, what would the player characters be? The Kaiju or the humans?

I decided to release the System Reference Document on Itch.io today to make it official and put it out on Creative Commons. I will likely follow up with Drivethru RPG shortly.

Now, "Magnificent Heroic Roleplaying" is out on an open license. You are free to use its text as you so wish to make your own derivative works. It is a retroclone based on an out-of-print superhero game from the 2010s.

Time to farm engagement with a geninue hottake that I have had for years:

DARK SOULS AND SOULS-LIKE ARE OVER RATED. STOP COMPARING EVERY GAME TO IT. IT IS GOOD BUT NOT PERFECT. F OFF.

I decided to download all my bank statements since I found out that my bank actually never deletes them so I was able to get an entire half-decade of statements to put in a password protected winzip. But, while I was doing it, it felt melcholny being reminded of all my jobs and even life events, like paying for my grandma's funeral.

I have been an accountant for six years. I wonder if someone could do an indie game about learning about someone's life through their finances.

Did you know...

Guinness Book of World Records is really just a novelty book brand. It doesn't actually keep track of a lot of details or records. It mainly makes money by offering "record breaking" services to insecure billionaires and entertainers/companies looking for a publicity stunt. They'll devise a thematic "world record" that they can complete, help you complete it, give you an "authenticatior" to confirm it, and then help you market and publish your record.

I just did a playtest for Wild Hunt. I thought it went well. But, I'm reeling.

According to my players, apparently, the nature of the magic resource, Dust, as a particle that makes up all life and also powers everything in the setting and being one's soul AND the idea of the schools as government -- which I came up with because it felt weird how Hogwarts had so much power as just some random school -- are both basically "His Dark Materials."

You know what's a fun scifi idea?

With weed being legal, research discovers that weed has evovled to make humans who consume it NOT SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT as a way of making it more likely for humans to cultivate it by convincing others humans to try it.
