My brothers and sisters in christ, to all the PbtA Devs, because we seem to be the only motherfuckers who do this, do not say "the playbooks are available online so we aren't putting them in the print book."

For the love of god, pay the extra 2 dollars a book to print them. Otherwise, in twenty years when every download link to them is gone forever because the internet is ephemeral, your game will be literally unplayable.

I swear to God, people forget how easily shit is lost on the internet. It boggles my brain when I was chatting with people and say they put loads of effort into a game but have no interest in a PDF for it and want to keep it a website.

Maybe it's because I was around when the internet started but your site will die one day, anything that can be saved to a harddrive or kept in print media will keep it alive when that day comes.

@malin hooray! 🤔 i feel like maybe we should formalize the religious tenants of “not fucking your readers” 😆

@Cook it’s also the makers of PbtA’s descendants (FitD). I had a rant about this and the many reasons it’s bad. https://dice.camp/@masukomi/111643734633392634

@masukomi
You dropped this 'v', now @Covok is frying onions for some reason.

Despite support, I claim exemption to this edict on the grounds of git.

Encounters in BIND change each month (as real-time passes between sessions) so a QR code provides them, and automatically updates.

But the books won't vanish, as everyone who works on one takes a full copy. Microsoft buried one copy beneath the Northern snow, so it may outlast the cockroaches.

@malin @Covok nah. git doesn't exempt you because

  1. the fact that multiple have a clone is no different than multiple people having a copy of a books PDF

  2. GitHub doesn't count because it's a company that we can't rely on existing in 30 years and we can't rely on offering free access in 30 years.

Yes, GitHub is a significantly safer bet than DriveThru but it's still a bet... especially with late-stage capitalism.

also, non-geeks are NOT 👍 when forced to use github.

@masukomi @Covok not 'github' - git. I'm using it as the decentralised service it was intended to be. It's on half a dozen sites, and if they all die, developers with a copy can put it up again, and a new QR is born.

Of course, a PDF with the book would be better, but it won't update when the basilisks hibernate, so you may as well use the tables in the book.

@malin @masukomi I literally do not know what frying onions mean.

masukomi,
@masukomi@dice.camp avatar

@Covok @malin is assumed a reference to tears , implying sadness that I’d both used the wrong name via misspelling ( not sure how that happened ) and excluded you from the response (unintentionally, of course)

@masukomi @Covok
'Covok' minus 'v' = 'cook'.

Cooks fry (or caramelise) onions.
