I am a tabletop game developer. I work mainly with rules lite narrative titles. My largest title to date is "Friendship, Effort, Victory," published by Far Horizons.

Currently, my major projects are:

  • Petmon, a rules light Digimon-inspired, narrative focused diceless game
  • Wild Hunt, an original variant on Fate Core that uses dice steps in place of Fate Dice that takes inspiration from works like RWBY.

You know what's a fun scifi idea?

With weed being legal, research discovers that weed has evovled to make humans who consume it NOT SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT as a way of making it more likely for humans to cultivate it by convincing others humans to try it.

The issue with Kaiju is they do not typically have complex personalities. They are usually just animals and never talk. Well, most of the time. Not unless they have tiny, fairy interpreters or...just talk once for no reason in one film. But, isn't the main action of the film all about the Kaiju?

I've been drinking but one playtester said that the setting is grimmdark, but a bleak setting where salvation is technically only possible through death (it's really about having a near death experience) is maybe super bleak.

Because of Saberspark, I saw this Christian animation today about the crucifixion.

Isn't a bleak, broken world that can only be escaped through death technically the Christian world view?

I just did a playtest for Wild Hunt. I thought it went well. But, I'm reeling.

According to my players, apparently, the nature of the magic resource, Dust, as a particle that makes up all life and also powers everything in the setting and being one's soul AND the idea of the schools as government -- which I came up with because it felt weird how Hogwarts had so much power as just some random school -- are both basically "His Dark Materials."

PSA: just announced they're changing their privacy policy to default all of your account info, who you support, etc. to public. You need to go into the settings and disable that. (Check the two toggles at the bottom of the Settings page to off.)

And then send Patreon a nasty letter, because default-open is just a stupid model to begin with, period.

What is your favorite D&D setting? Official and unofficial?

Mine is Eberron by Keith Baker.

It's a wonderfully unique world. Where most fantasy dwells in the Medieval, Eberron is set during post-WW1. The world is recovering from essentially a nuclear strike that wiped out a nation. All the species have elements of 20th century European and American society. Religion is a lot more true to life. And everything in D&D has a place somewhere: if its a 3.5 sup, its in Eberron.

    Looking over Marvel Multiverse, I'm kind of suprised. Everyone said the playtest was a dumpster fire, but this looks okay. I heard there were a lot improvements and I suppose it shows. It isn't replacing MHR or Masks or any of my other favorite superhero games, but this does look fine.

    That said, the fact they NEVER plan to release a PDF and will only sell a roll20 module that will turn off THE SECOND the license expires and they're charhing 50 for it, more than the p.book costs is wild.

    @genesisoflegend Not necessarily. It depends. See, comics also benefit from all distributor sales being final. Unlike most book sales, as long as the shop buys, they have a final sales and you can't get a refund. TRPGs are like a traditional book so that doesn't apply. They need a person to buy the product to make money and TRPGs can be costly to print. So, it might end up getting abanonded if projected sales are less than printing costs/distribution/etc.

    @genesisoflegend I see it kind of the opposite. A giant company is also aggressively trying to maximize profits and the margins are so low on trpgs that I see it more likely they cancel it to reallocate resources to a more profitable venture. I can be completely wrong too. I just feel that Disney or Marvel are more likely to question "why are we doing this?" if it doesn't hit some super high sales figure. That's basically what happened with MHR and that was toybiz and not the Mouse.

    @genesisoflegend They do have two supplements announced and an Adventure. I am curious if they'll come out. I actually would hope the X-Men supplement releases because I like the X-Men and, while I think I'll still prefer other games, I am warming up to this one reading through. Spider-verse has also been announced, which is interesting, but I guess the movie pushed that. Not 100% sure how many variations on Spider-Man this system can make tbh.
