Eleven weeks since I was last in the pool, after eleven months of going mostly weekly.

Might venture back tonight, now the lurgie has receded.

Well Lisa Frankenstein wasn't a bad way to spend an evening. Not earth-shattering, but solid enough.

Despite living in Ireland for the best part of twenty years, I still find election posters, appearing like a rash for about five weeks, attached to every piece of street furniture, bewildering. Like some continual game of "Snog, Marry, Avoid"*.

Noticed today: the number of people who are on a phone call, but think they're in an episode of The Apprentice, weirdly holding their fondleslab horizontally in front of them.

"The Fall Guy" was great fun.

I've just noticed that since I have gotten back into regularly going swimming, and the attendant tightening of stomach muscles it has produced - easily done with loads of lengths of breaststroke, even if there remains plentiful blubber - I seem to be producing far less belly button fluff.

I'm still wearing the same sorts of clothes, I'm not appreciably hairier or fluffier.

I ought to apply for a research grant to study its production. An Ignobel Prize could be mine.

I'm averaging about one visit a week at the cinema this year:
Jan - 3
Feb - 3
Mar - 6
Apr - 4
May - 3
Jun - 6
Jul - 6
Aug - 7 (so far, two booked for next week)

Few repeated films, too:
Sisu (3)
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2)

Trying to add my two pence to Letterboxd's page for Napoleon, but it seems to be broken.

The TL;DR summary - Horrible Histories, if they had a massive budget, dropped the songs and dropped the historical veracity. Entertaining, but not in the way you'd expect.

The Holdovers opens on Friday. Despite seeing the trailer several times at my local Odeon, it's only showing at two other sites near(ish) me: one far to the other side of Dublin, the other in the city centre but not the centre of the city, more like the port. Adventure awaits.

I didn't doubt it for a second, yet it's still wonderful to be reassured of the inherent soundness, decency and humanity of Michael Palin, on foot of others reacting personally to this splendid interview.

Michael Palin on the loss of his wife of 57 years: ‘I’d love Helen to still be here, telling me off’

I'm trying to work out if the required over rate in Test cricket, 15 overs (90 balls) an hour is perhaps too fast? That's a ball every 40 seconds, assuming no breaks. Seems rapid? Only 25 overs were bowled by Australia this morning.

And time: didn't tests in England once begin at 10.30am? Or has it always been 11am?

Listening to podcasts is all well and good, apart from those with ads dropped in - like anything, ads are generally terrible.

This week's latest irritant: an online off licence, trumpeting 'the latest celebrity releases'. 🤮

Sacked off The News Agents. There's impartiality, and then there's making false equivalences.
