It is commonly known that the best time to see alewives is when forsythia is in bloom, while the shad move upstream with the blooming of shadbush. Blueback herring move inland a bit later …, and they tend to spawn when lilacs are in bloom.
@Deus Interesting. Corn is wind pollinated (its a grass). But a little searching shows that bees forage in corn fields, especially if pickings are slim elsewhere in the area. So I learned that!
