DataAngler

@DataAngler@vis.social

I am a data scientist who programs in R and SAS. Don't ask me to pick one. I am also particularly interested in equity in education as well as gender equity and equity in policing. Occasionally fly fishing. My posts are my own.

Nothing like bicycling under a giant magnolia tree in summer and taking a big breath.

If you use RStudio to write R code but arenโ€™t using code snippets, you may want to check them out. They can be a big timesaver!
I did a tutorial article & video a few years ago: https://www.infoworld.com/article/3396616/how-to-use-rstudio-code-snippets.html

@smach @rstats This is great! I can actually store my function calls as snippets to call them that much faster.

I really dig how much I can get done in one line in , such as needing to grab a substring for many variables

df[,c(1:50, 60:100)] <- lapply(df[,c(1:50, 60:100)], function(x) as.numeric(substr(x, 1,1))

10% of data science is asking people to export data from Qualtrics in a different format.

@adriangadientbruegger @Danwwilson University researchers often have access to one of two tools: Redcap and Qualtrics. I'm usually working with people who do work with the latter.

@hfrick @Danwwilson Yes, this is a useful package. I was just casually griping about how if I get the value labels, I ask for a re-export with values so that my code can process all the multi-select variables people like to use. ๐Ÿ™‚

@adriangadientbruegger @Danwwilson Really great to see this! I don't remember to use the haven ๐Ÿ“ฆ

I am increasingly being asked to build structural equation models (in ) and am looking for recs about a textbook for someone who is familiar with linear regression but does not have background in IRT. My director says things like, "constrain the variances to 1" and I'm like, sure...but why?
