Olayemi Olurin always spits truth.

Why Biden's plea to pass his George Floyd law is misguided, why Black people don't like it, and why it will make murder and abuse of Black people by cops worse.

I was on my way to do some #birding with a friend in a wildlife area on the Columbia River today. Almost the instant I drove onto the island, I went under a kestrel on a wire, and an osprey paced my car for a long time.

I had to drive! I couldn’t watch them! But it felt like a magical place, and I murmured “I’m so grateful to be among you!” to the birds to relieve my feelings as I diligently kept my eyes on the road! 🥹

Incredible drone footage of the Greenfield, IA tornado courtesy of Reed Timmer.

The drone was able to orbit through the outer circulation of the tornado capturing some of the best views I've ever seen of a multi-vortex tornado.

There's a lot that can be learned from this type of close-range footage. Includes a brief clip around 2:15 of a wind turbine being taken down by the outer wind field.

It can be difficult to come up with a single infographic that summarizes a complex topic without hiding more detailed information. I think this example from The Guardian is excellent. The estimation of the coming climate crisis in a nutshell. “Planet is headed for at least 2.5C of heating with disastrous results for humanity, poll of hundreds of scientists finds”

Even When a Is Killed With an Illegally Purchased Weapon, the Store’s Name Is Kept Secret

A 2003 pushed by the gun industry limits the information shared by federal agents and shields gun shops from public scrutiny.

But ProPublica was able to identify the store that sold the gun used in the shooting of a police officer.

Our department statement about the shameful actions of Gene Block which put our students at risk. I have much to say about what’s been going on at #UCLA and little of it good. Block must resign.

The students at the encampment, with whom I spent a part of today, are an example of solidarity and democracy. Their right to protest on campus must be defended.

Thanks to the great work by @klmr & @idavydov I've put together this repo: https://github.com/hrbrmstr/rdaradar that will help sanity check R data files in as safe a way as possible.

It's super basic and I'm rly tight on time this week, so issues (and, eventual PRs) are welcome.

You're still better off not trusting R data files not created by you.
