Defaced,

All of these steam deck competitors all try to sell the same thing, higher resolutions and more power. The problem that valve understands is that you can’t just slap any SOC in a handheld PC and expect good battery life versus performance. The only way to combat the lower battery life is a bigger battery or make your chip use less power. The new AMD 8000 SOCs are promising, but I think the only company to make a real meaningful handheld PC is valve, they chose the perfect chip for their needs.

Defaced,

But that has nothing to do with the hardware. If the chip is more powerful and using more power, it’s not going to last as long on a battery. You could argue about performance modes and whatnot but ultimately it’s down to the chip the handheld is running. I would bet the battery life on a deck running windows is very close to the battery life running steamOS.

Am I the only one that actually doesn’t mind the term boomer shooter? I find it hilarious and accurate for the most part.

Tried the free fly days recently, the game would crash every time I played because apparently my 16GB of RAM isn’t enough to play this game. Yes, I changed my page file to accommodate, yes it ran longer afterwards but still crashed, also changing your page file to accommodate your game’s dogshit optimization, even in early access, is not an acceptable way to handle the problem. I noped the fuck out of star citizen after that, so I guess their free fly days did the opposite for me and convinced me that the game wasn’t worth my time or effort to play.

Defaced,

It absolutely 100% is the problem, it’s what the crash logs point too and what every ridiculous reddit troubleshooting thread says to do, increase the fucking page file. The only thing I can think of is the crash logs might be referencing VRAM not system RAM, of which I have 8GB on a vega56. Regardless if of that’s the case then it’s the same problem, dogshit optimization.

Defaced,

Yes it is the problem, this is the same exact issue I was having: reddit.com/…/constant_crash_is_out_of_system_memo…

And my problems were in the last free flight days. Google it and there are a shit ton of forum and reddit posts about it. You can stop gaslighting now.

Defaced,

Here ya go bud, definition of gaslight, which you definitely are doing. www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/gaslighting

As far as the game getting patched you’ve just admitted the game is a buggy piece of shit! Also, it’s not just reddit 3 years ago!

Here, let me Google that shit for you: letmegooglethat.com/?q=star+citizen+out+of+memory…

And if you seriously need help Google’ing the issue then here you go: …robertsspaceindustries.com/…/360000083387-Out-of…

robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/…/ram-usage

And if you need a more recent example:

reddit.com/…/newcomer_thats_been_trying_to_play_f…

Here is one from 2023 from people claiming it requires 32GB: testsquadron.com/…/32gb-vs-64gb-ram-in-star-citiz…

The game is not optimized and is a broken, buggy piece of shit scam of a game but nah bruh, it’s just my PC…gtfo of here with that shit.

Defaced,

They are the good ones, I believe nacon are the bad guys.

Defaced,

You can tell they really cheaped out on the games in the last couple of years. I guess if you have one or two big games it’s more than enough.

Defaced,

Cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty. It’s really good, like, better than most of the story in the vanilla game. It’s a really cool detective story that really fleshes out V’s character.

Defaced,

D1 > D2, and that’s probably never going to change. D1 has an amazing atmosphere, especially after rise of iron came out and the SIVA virus took over parts of the cosmodrome. Bungie is really struggling right now, marathon better be amazing.

Defaced,

As others have said use the Pop_OS! Nvidia ISO. Nvidia drivers are just problematic on Linux. There’s a good chance your games will just work with that OS. It’s also based off Ubuntu, so it has access to the same software repositories.

God of War Creator Is Unhappy With New Games and Kratos' Story (comicbook.com)

Despite being nominated for numerous awards and even winning Game of the Year in 2018, the creator of God of War, David Jaffe, is not a huge fan of the new direction the series has gone in. Jaffe himself hasn't worked on these new God of War games, but thinks that they're not staying true to the spirit of the character and the...

Defaced,

I played about 3 hours of 2018, and my honest opinion is that the story was kind of interesting, but the gameplay was slow and clunky. The most fun I had with my time was the fight in the beginning with Baldur, and most of it was a cutscene. I prefer the gameplay and fluidity of combat in the original trilogy, which I have beaten, to this new version. With that being said, it’s still a good game, just not my cup of tea.

Defaced,

If they don’t use AMD then good luck, Nvidia is historically garbage on Linux. I’ve built my rig to be AMD only for the specific use case of gaming on Linux so it has been a fantastic experience for me.

Defaced,

Yeah there are distros that make the driver install process seamless like pop and Nobara. I’ve used both and have stuck with endeavorOS for now.

Defaced,

I’m all for defederating, but only until we know what their intentions are. I’m more worried about Mastodon than Lemmy, but still, that’s not the point. The only power any of us have is to file an official complaint with the FTC and make a distinct point, not just “I hate meta/Facebook and want them to go away” it has to be a logical complaint such as “their terms of service are overstepping their boundaries and taking ownership of data on competing platforms that they do not own to lock out competitors.” It’s really the only thing anyone in the US can do.

I would hate for the fediverse to die by zuck the cuck’s hand, but the sad truth is open source is the enemy of corporate platforms, and it’s encouraging enough that ActivityPub is enough of a threat to Meta that they’re willing to go to these measures to make sure their bottom line isn’t harmed. The real fucked up thing is their intention to farm other platforms users with their consent and that’s the real problem.

The only reason any of those businesses use Microsoft products is because of active directory and exchange. Both of which are legacy products that are being, if not already, phased out. The real truth is this, the enterprise runs on Microsoft, but the world runs on Linux. Windows is so bad for containers that Microsoft has to make their own distro of Linux specifically for containers with azure Linux and that’s just one example of the technical debt Windows creates. The quicker NT can finally die is when the world can finally move towards real innovation instead of being handicapped by Microsoft and their unfair business practices. Some of us haven’t forgotten “embrace, extend, and extinguish” which is exactly what they’re doing in the gaming markets by buying up the competition.

Defaced,

They actually are being phased out. Traditional AD powered through LDAP is going the way of the dodo with the inception of azure AD and exchange is getting replaced by o365 for business. As for Outlook, the latest version is trash and Excel is great for the most part but when you build entire workflows out of Excel with Oracle connections and pivot tables it’s complete dog shit to manage from an IT perspective. There’s a reason damn near every web server ruins through Apache on a Linux box instead of IIS.

Defaced,

It’s not, it’s a superficial opinion on color and functionality that apple and Google want you to think is a big deal but in reality it’s two companies using two different protocols and they want you to pick up their product over the over. Even Americans don’t know why it’s a big deal, they see green in iMessage and freak out.

Defaced,

My daily driver is an endeavorOS install, the only reason I keep windows 10 on a small SSD is for GeForce Now since the windows app is the only platform they provide that supports streams at 120+fps and 1440p. My windows 10 install is just a GeForce Now thin client ever since I got att fiber.

Defaced,

I’ve been running Wayland for a while on my amd rig and haven’t had any problems with xwayland in regards to compatibility. Nvidia on the other hand is problematic but the drivers seem to be improving with every release.

Defaced,

Pretty sure fsr 2.1 is in the game now as of the last big update.

Rising from Unity's Ashes: The Evolution of Pop!_OS and the Birth of the COSMIC DE (www.deusinmachina.net)

In the dynamic world of Linux a new Linux distribution is nothing new, but Pop!_OS is something special. Born out of necessity when Ubuntu announced the end of its Unity Desktop in 2017, Pop!_OS has not just filled the void left by Unity, but has carved out a distinct identity in the Linux community. This journey, from an...

There are many advantages to using kde, VRR being a major reason. Not to mention valve directly contributes to kde for the steam deck. I’m looking forward to cosmic, but I’m on kde right now and ok going to wait until cosmic is stable before using it.

Defaced,

You sound like every other blizzard fanboy taking in that copium. There are better games out there, if you like HotS good for you, but don’t go around talking about how difficult it is when half the roster only has roughly 2-3 abilities and no items in the game to make any real strategy viable.
