I don’t think the internal wear-leveling and overprovisioning of SSDs can or should be able to replace raid. Disregarding a dead sector without losing capacity is great, but it won’t help you when (for example) the controller dies.

Depending on the amount of data you’re storing SSDs also might be too expensive.

The only exception is maybe Raid 0 in a normal PC. Here it’s probably better to just get one disk for each logical drive.

Ich bin erstaunt, dass die Polizeigewerkschaft so lange gebraucht hat um ihr altes “Privatsphäre und Datenschutz behindern unsere Arbeit”-gejammer rauszuholen.

Normalerweise sind sie bei sowas immer sehr schnell wenn sie gerade Rampenlicht haben.

I guess she assumes that parents are always willing and able to do the best for their kids and can’t be at fault if something bad happens to them.

Ghey is campaigning for the introduction of “children’s phones” with no social media apps, which are linked to their parents’ devices.

This would probably kill more trans kids than the current system ever could.

Yes, but that stems more from the fact that the Republic of China (aka Taiwan) and the People’s Republic of China both lay claims to be the real China.

You can’t really declare independence from yourself.

Also the PRC would probably attack immediately if the ROC gave up their claim on being china.

X is old and very hard to maintain. A lot of rules about how displays work have changed drastically since X became a thing. X went along with most of those changes, which meant the introduction of more and more hacks to keep it running.

Over time X became worse and worse to work on and people realized that it’s easier to write something new from scratch instead of trying to fix the decade-old technical debt in X.

That new thing was Wayland and over time most if not all people that where interested in working on desktop compositing pivoted away from X.

Wayland (as it is always the case with new software of that size) didn’t hit the ground running. It had various issues at the beginning and also follows a different desig philosophy than X.

Despite a lot of issues being fixed some people are still very vocal about not wanting to use wayland for one reason or another. While some of those reasons are valid, most come from ignorance or laziness to adapt.

Der Beitrag ist auch in der Eltern-Generation meiner Familie angekommen. Wir sind letztens auf einer kleinen Feier zusammengesessen als jemand damit angefangen hat.

Die waren alle gegen regelmäßige Überprüfungen, weil sie ja dann wahrscheinlich den Schein auch abgeben müssten. Und überhaupt ist das ja nur eine Masche vom Staat den Umsatz von Fahrschulen anzukurbeln.

Ist schon krass wie knapp Leute dran kommen und es dann doch nicht checken.

Gegenargument: Blitzer halten Raser nicht vom rasen ab. Warnungen vor Blitzern schon (zumindest dort wo gewarnt wird).

Und der Lerneffekt wenn man wochen später einen Brief bekommt ist für viele auch eher abgeschwächt.

Wenn schon Geschwindigkeitsmessung dann doch bitte mit Streife, die einen direkt danach aufhält und konfrontiert.
